How to Publish a Facebook Business Page

Hitting publish on your new Facebook Business Page feels like opening the doors to a new storefront. This guide will walk you through a simple pre-launch checklist to make sure your page looks professional from day one, the exact steps to publish it, and how to get your first wave of followers right after you go live.

Your Pre-Launch Checklist: 4 Things to Do Before Publishing Your Page

You wouldn't open a restaurant without food on the menu or tables for guests, and your Facebook Page is no different. A new visitor's first impression is everything. Before you click that publish button, take 30 minutes to run through this checklist. A little prep work now makes a massive difference in how seriously people take your brand.

1. Complete Your Page Information (Every Single Field)

An incomplete profile looks unprofessional and untrustworthy. It suggests the business might be a side project or, worse, not legitimate. Go through every section of your page and fill it out completely. It shows you care and makes it easier for people to find, contact, and understand what you do.

  • Profile Picture &, Cover Photo: Your profile picture should be your logo or a clear, professional headshot. Your cover photo is prime real estate, use a high-quality image of your product, your team, or something that visually explains what you offer. Tools like Canva have pre-sized templates to make this easy.
  • Create a Vanity URL (@username): By default, your page URL will be a long string of numbers (e.g., facebook.com/pages/your-business/1234567890). Immediately change it to a clean, branded username like facebook.com/YourBusinessName. This is professional, memorable, and much easier to share. You can set this in your Page settings under "General" and then "Username."
  • Write a Compelling 'About' Section: This is your elevator pitch. In a few sentences, clearly state who you are, what you do, and who you do it for. Don't be vague. Instead of "We sell quality goods," try "We create handcrafted leather bags for the modern adventurer."
  • Fill Out Contact and Location Details: Add your website, phone number, email, and business hours. If you're a brick-and-mortar business, get your address on the map. This builds trust and gives customers the information they need to do business with you.
  • Set Your Call-to-Action (CTA) Button: This button sits right below your cover photo and is a powerful tool to guide visitors. Facebook gives you options like "Book Now," "Contact Us," "View Shop," or "Learn More." Choose the one that best aligns with your primary business goal.

2. Line Up at Least 3-5 Initial Posts

Never launch an empty page. When people land on your page for the first time, you want them to have something to look at. An active, populated page immediately feels more credible. Having a few posts ready before you publish gives those first visitors a reason to stick around and Like your page.

Post a mix of content to showcase what people can expect from you:

  • The Introduction Post: Pin this to the top of your page. Share who you are, your mission, and what kind of value you'll be providing on the page. Use a great photo of you, your team, or your flagship product.
  • A Value-First Post: Share a quick tip, a helpful resource, or a solution to a common problem your audience faces. This shows you're not just here to sell, but to help. For example, a financial advisor could share "3 Common Misconceptions About Saving for Retirement."
  • A Behind-the-Scenes Look: People connect with people. Share a photo of your workspace, you working on a product, or a snapshot from a team meeting. It humanizes your brand.

3. Review Your Page Settings and Roles

A quick check of your settings now can save you headaches later. From the left sidebar on your page, click "Settings" and review a couple of key areas.

  • Page Roles: If you're working with a team, this is where you assign permissions. You can add other people as Admins, Editors, or Moderators. Make sure anyone who needs access has it before you go live.
  • Notifications: Decide how you want to be notified of activity on your page. Getting notifications for every like, comment, and share right from the start helps you respond quickly and build community. You can adjust these settings at any time.
  • Visitor Posts & Reviews: Decide if you want to allow other people to post on your Page and if you want the "Reviews" tab to be visible. For most businesses, transparency is a good thing, so enabling these is generally a good idea.

4. Get a Few Seed 'Likes' from Your Inner Circle

Social proof is powerful. A page with zero likes feels abandoned. Before announcing your page to the world, privately send the link to a handful of trusted colleagues, friends, or family members and ask them to give it a Like. Having even 5-10 likes on the board makes the page instantly more appealing to the first wave of real new visitors.

How to Publish Your Facebook Page: The Step-by-Step Guide

Once you’ve run through the pre-launch checklist, you’re ready to officially go live. Publishing your page is the easy part. It's literally just a couple of clicks.

  1. Go to Your Page Settings: Navigate to the Facebook Page you want to publish. On the left-hand menu, click on Settings at the very bottom.
  2. Find 'Page Visibility': In the "Settings" tab, you'll be on the "General" settings page by default. The very first option at the top of the list will be "Page Visibility."
  3. Select 'Page published' and Save: You’ll see that your page is currently set to "Page unpublished." Click the Edit button on the right. A small dropdown will appear with two options: "Page published" and "Page unpublished." Select "Page published" and then click the blue Save Changes button.

As soon as you save the change, your page is officially live and visible to the public. Congratulations!

What About Unpublishing a Page?

Sometimes you need to take an existing page offline temporarily, perhaps during a re-brand or if you need to perform some major updates. The process is the same. Just follow the steps above, but in the final step, select "Page unpublished" and save your changes. Your page will become invisible to the public, but admins will still be able to access and edit it.

3 Things to Do Immediately After You Publish

Hitting publish is just the starting line. Your immediate next steps are all about building momentum and letting the world know you exist. Here’s what to do in the first 24 hours.

1. Share Your Page with Your Personal Network

Your existing network of friends and contacts is your most valuable asset right now. Your first announcement should come from your personal Facebook profile.

Craft a simple post announcing your new page. Don't just drop the link, tell people why you're excited about it and what they can expect by following along. Make it personal and ask them to not only Like the page but to share your announcement post as well. One well-timed share from a supportive friend can introduce your brand to hundreds of new people.

2. Use the 'Invite Friends' Feature

From your official Business Page, Facebook has a built-in tool that lets you invite people from your personal friends list to Like your page. This is a direct line to putting your brand in front of people who already know, like, and trust you.

To use it, go to your page, click the three-dot menu (...) below your page's name and cover photo, and select "Invite friends." You can then select friends individually or all at once. For the best results, send the invites in smaller batches and follow up with a few key people directly on Messenger to add a personal touch.

3. Update Your Online Footprint

Your Facebook Page link should be everywhere your brand is. Take 10 minutes to make these quick updates:

  • Add your Facebook Page URL to your website's header or footer.
  • Link to your page from your other social media bios (like Instagram, X, and LinkedIn).
  • Add a linked Facebook icon to your professional email signature.
  • If you have a physical location, make sure any marketing materials (business cards, flyers, menus) include your new Facebook username.

By getting these foundational announcement steps right, you set your page up for strong organic growth right from the beginning.

Final Thoughts

Bringing your Facebook Business Page to life is a straightforward process, but preparing for launch and sticking to a smart post-publish plan is what separates pages that thrive from those that falter. Now that you're live, your primary focus should shift to creating valuable content and engaging with every single person who takes the time to comment or interact.

Staying consistent with content creation can feel like the biggest challenge after a successful launch. After building marketing tools for years and juggling multiple social channels ourselves, we created Postbase to make that part easier. I personally rely on our visual calendar to map out everything for the week ahead - from videos for Reels and TikTok to updates for Facebook - and schedule them across all our platforms at once. It helps our team stay organized and gives us more time to spend on the best part: talking with our community.

He's spent years in the weeds of social media management—scheduling posts, analyzing performance, coordinating teams. At Postbase, he's building tools to automate the busywork so you can focus on creating great content.
