How to Change Company Name on LinkedIn

Refreshing your brand identity often includes updating your company name, and your LinkedIn Company Page is one of the most visible places this change needs to happen. This guide will walk you through exactly how to change your company name on LinkedIn, A to Z. We’ll cover the step-by-step process for making the change, what to do if the option is locked, and the critical tasks you need to handle afterward to make sure your branding stays consistent.

Before You Click "Save": A Pre-Change Checklist

Changing your company name on LinkedIn seems simple, but a little bit of prep work can save you from major headaches later on. Small edits are easy, but significant changes (like after a rebrand or merger) have bigger implications. Before you change anything, run through this quick checklist.

1. Confirm You Have Super Admin Access

Not just any page admin can change the company name. You must be a "Super Admin" for the page. LinkedIn has several admin roles, each with different permissions:

  • Super Admin: Full access. Can edit all page details (including the name), add or remove other admins, and deactivate the page.
  • Content Admin: Can post updates, create events, and manage comments, but cannot edit core page information like the name.
  • Curator: Can recommend content for employees to share from the "My Company" tab.
  • Analyst: Can view page analytics and export data but cannot make any changes.

To check your role, go to your Company Page and click "Admin tools" in the top right corner. From the dropdown, select "Manage admins." You'll see a list of all admins and their roles. If you're not a Super Admin, you'll need to ask someone who is to either make the change for you or upgrade your permissions.

2. Understand What You Can (and Can't) Change

LinkedIn draws a hard line between a name correction and a rebrand. You can easily edit your Page name yourself if you are fixing a typo, adding "Inc." or "LLC," or making a minor adjustment that keeps the core name intact. For example:

  • "Beta Marketing" to "Beta Marketing Solutions" &mdash, Likely OK.
  • "Innovate Tech Co" to "InnovateTech Co." &mdash, Likely OK.

However, if your change represents a fundamental rebrand, merger, or acquisition, LinkedIn's system will likely block you. Examples include:

  • "Sunrise Coffee" to "Midnight Brew Co." &mdash, This is a rebrand.
  • "Dynamic Web Services" to "Stellar Cloud Hosting" &mdash, Also a rebrand.

In these cases, LinkedIn’s official policy suggests creating a new Company Page because the entity has fundamentally changed. If you feel your situation is a legitimate name change that's being blocked, you'll need to contact LinkedIn Support directly (more on that below).

3. Prepare Your New Branding Assets

Don't just change the name and walk away. A name change is a perfect opportunity for a full brand refresh on your page. Before you make the switch, have these assets ready to go:

  • New Logo: Make sure it’s in the correct dimensions (300 x 300 pixels is recommended).
  • New Cover Image: This space (1128 x 191 pixels) is prime real estate to reinforce your new brand identity.
  • Updated Tagline: Craft a new, punchy tagline (120 characters max) that reflects your updated company name and mission.
  • Updated "About" Section: Prepare updated copy that tells your brand’s story and incorporates the new name naturally.

4. Plan Your Communication Strategy

A name change shouldn't happen in a vacuum. You need to inform two key groups: your employees and your followers.

  • For Employees: When you change the company name, their work experience section on their personal profiles will not update automatically. You need to tell them to manually edit their profiles. Prepare an internal announcement with simple instructions.
  • For Followers: Your followers might be confused when they see a new name in their feed. Plan an announcement post to go live right after you make the change. Explain the reason for the update, what’s new, and what’s staying the same.

The Step-by-Step Guide to Changing Your Company Name

Once you’ve gone through the checklist and are ready to proceed, changing your company's name takes just a few clicks. Here's exactly how to do it.

  1. Log in to LinkedIn and Go to Your Company Page: Navigate to the page you want to update from your main LinkedIn feed.
  2. Enter Admin View: If you aren't already in the admin view, you'll see a button labeled "View as admin." Click it.
  3. Click "Edit Page": You'll find this button in the top left section, usually right under your company’s logo and name.
  4. Navigate to "Page info": An "Edit" panel will appear on the left. The first tab is "Page info," which is where your company name, URL, and other core details are stored.
  5. Update the Name Field: The "Name" field will be the first one you see. If it’s editable, go ahead and type in your new company name.
  6. Save Your Changes: Scroll down to the bottom of the panel and click the "Save changes" button. Your updated name should now be live on your page.

As soon as you save, your page title and the name that appears across LinkedIn will reflect the update. But your work isn't done just yet.

"Help! The Name Field is Grayed Out!" &mdash, A Troubleshooting Guide

It's a common and frustrating problem: you get to the "Page info" screen, and the name field is locked or grayed out. You can't click it, you can't type in it, and you're stuck. Don't worry, here's what’s likely happening and what to do about it.

Reason 1: You Are Not a Super Admin

As mentioned earlier, only Super Admins can make this change. If the field is locked, double-check your admin-level first. If you're a Content Admin or Analyst, you'll need to ask a Super Admin for help.

Reason 2: LinkedIn Believes It's a Rebrand

If you're a confirmed Super Admin and the field is still grayed out, LinkedIn's algorithm has likely flagged your attempted change as a rebrand, not a minor correction. This happens when the new name is significantly different from the old one.

The Solution: Contact LinkedIn Support

When the system blocks you, your only option is to plead your case directly to a human at LinkedIn. They have the power to manually override the lock. Here are a few tips for getting a successful and speedy resolution:

  1. Gather Your Proof: Before you even open a support ticket, gather any documentation that proves your name change is official. This could be a screenshot of your updated business license, a press release about the change, or a link to your redesigned website with the new name.
  2. Open a Support Case: From your LinkedIn profile, click the "Me" icon, select "Help" from the dropdown, and navigate to the Help Center. Search for an option to "Contact us" or open a support ticket.
  3. Be Clear and Concise: In your message to support, be direct. Don't just say "I can't change my page name." Instead, use this template:
"Hello, I am a Super Admin for our LinkedIn Company Page ([Link to your Page]). We have legally changed our company name from '[Old Company Name]' to '[New Company Name]'. The name field in the admin tools is grayed out, preventing me from making the update. Could you please assist us in updating our page name to reflect our official new name? We have documentation available if needed."
  4. Be Patient but Persistent: LinkedIn Support can sometimes be slow. If you don't hear back within a few business days, follow up politely on your initial ticket.

The Post-Change Cleanup: Your Job Isn't Done Yet

Changing the name is step one. Step two is ensuring the rest of your LinkedIn presence aligns with it. Here’s your post-change to-do list.

1. Update Your Public URL

This is the most overlooked step. Changing your page name does NOT automatically change your public URL. Your address will remain `linkedin.com/company/old-company-name`, which is confusing and bad for branding.

While still in the "Edit Page" section, go to the "Page info" tab. Just below the name field, you'll see a spot for "LinkedIn public URL." Click the pencil icon to edit it. Try to make it match your new name as closely as possible, like `linkedin.com/company/new-company-name`. Save your change.

One major warning: When you change your URL, the old one breaks immediately. Anyone who clicks a link with your old URL will land on a 404 error page. Be prepared to update this link wherever it exists.

2. Tell Your Employees to Update Their Profiles

Again, employee profiles don't automatically sync to the new name. To maintain brand consistency, your entire team needs to update their Work Experience. Send out a company-wide email or Slack message with these simple instructions:

"Hi Team,

As part of our recent name change to [New Company Name], we’ve updated our LinkedIn Company Page. To make sure your personal profile is aligned, please take a moment to update your current role.

1. Go to your LinkedIn profile and scroll to your 'Experience' section.
2. Click the pencil icon next to your current position at our company.
3. In the 'Company' field, delete the old name and start typing '[New Company Name]'.
4. Select our new company page when it appears in the dropdown menu (it will have the new logo!).
5. Click 'Save.'

This will link your profile to our new page. Thanks for your help!"

3. Publish an Announcement Post

Draft a post for your followers. It can be simple! Something like:

"Big news! [Old Company Name] is now [New Company Name]! Our new name reflects our focus on [mention what's changing or improving]. While our name has changed, our commitment to [mention what's staying the same] is stronger than ever. Come follow us on our new journey!"

Use your new logo and cover image in the post for maximum visual impact.

4. Update Your Links Everywhere Else

Go on a scavenger hunt for your old LinkedIn URL. Update it everywhere it appears, including:

  • Your website's footer and contact page.
  • Your email signatures.
  • Your other social media profiles (X, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
  • Any online directories or partner websites.

Final Thoughts

Updating your company name on LinkedIn is a straightforward process when it's a minor edit, but it requires strategic communication to ensure a smooth transition for your brand, your employees, and your followers.
