How to Remove People from a Facebook Page

Managing a Facebook Page means you will eventually need to adjust who has access. Whether an employee has left your company, a freelancer’s contract has ended, or you need to clean up your page from spam, knowing exactly how to remove someone is a fundamental Page management skill. This guide provides clear, step-by-step instructions for removing page roles, banning disruptive users, and maintaining a secure, professional environment for your community.

Understanding Facebook Page Roles

Before removing someone, it’s helpful to understand the different levels of access you can assign on a Facebook Page. When Meta shifted from the classic Page experience to the "New Pages Experience," roles became more streamlined. The main types of access are now tiered based on what someone can do in Meta Business Suite, on Facebook itself, or through other tools.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the primary access levels:

  • Admin Access (Full Control): The highest level of permission. Admins can manage all aspects of the Page, including adding or removing other people, deleting the Page, viewing insights, creating ads, and responding to messages and comments. Only give full control to people you trust completely.
  • Editor Access (Partial Control): People with this access can do almost everything an Admin can, such as create and delete posts, send messages as the Page, and view insights. However, they cannot manage Page roles or permissions. This is the ideal level for most of your social media managers and content creators.
  • Moderator, Advertiser, Analyst (Task Access): For more specialized jobs, Meta allows you to grant "task access." This is a more limited type of permission that lets people work in specific areas without having broader control. For example, a Moderator can respond to comments but not create content, while an Advertiser can create ads but not post organically.

Knowing these distinctions helps you follow the principle of least privilege - giving people only the access they truly need, which is a core tenet of good digital security.

How to Remove Someone with Page Access (Desktop Guide)

The most common scenario is removing a team member who no longer needs access to the backend of your Page. Only someone with full Admin control can perform this action. The process has largely moved into Meta Business Suite, so we’ll walk through those updated steps.

Here’s how to do it from your computer:

  1. Navigate to Meta Business Suite: Log in to the Facebook profile that has Admin access to the page. Go to business.facebook.com.
  2. Select Your Page: If you manage multiple assets, use the dropdown menu on the top-left to select the correct Business Account and the specific Facebook Page.
  3. Go to Page Access Settings: In the left-hand navigation menu, click "Settings." From there, find and click on "Page access." You may also see it listed as "People."
  4. Find the Person to Remove: On the "Page access" screen, you’ll see a list of everyone who has access to your Page under "People with Facebook access" or "People with task access." Browse the list to find the person you want to remove.
  5. Initiate the Removal: Next to their name, click the three horizontal dots icon (...). A small menu will pop up with a couple of options.
  6. Select "Remove access": Click this option. A confirmation pop-up will appear, warning you that this action is permanent and will remove their ability to manage the Page.
  7. Confirm with Your Password: For security, Facebook will ask you to re-enter your password to confirm the change. Enter it and click "Confirm."

That’s it. The person will be immediately removed and will no longer have management permissions for your Page. They will not receive a formal notification about their removal, but they will simply lose access.

How to Remove Someone with Page Access (Mobile Guide)

Many social media managers run their pages on the go. Thankfully, removing someone from your phone is just as straightforward.

Follow these steps using the Facebook app:

  1. Switch to Your Page's Profile: Open the Facebook app and tap the menu icon (your profile picture) in the bottom-right corner. From there, select your Page to switch to its management profile.
  2. Access Management Tools: Once you're managing as your Page, tap the menu icon again. Under your Page's name, you should see a "Professional Dashboard" or "Manage" button. Tap it.
  3. Find "Page Access": Scroll through the tools in your professional dashboard until you find "Page Access." Tap on it.
  4. Locate the Person: You'll see the list of people with access. Find the name of the person you need to remove.
  5. Remove Their Access: Tap the three dots located to the right of their name. In the options that appear, select "Remove access."
  6. Enter Your Password to Confirm: The app will prompt you for your password to verify your identity. Type it in and tap "Confirm" to finalize the removal.

Similar to the desktop process, this action is effective immediately and the removed user won't get an alert.

What’s the Difference Between Removing Admin Access and Banning a User?

This is a common point of confusion, but the distinction is simple and important:

  • Removing Page Access is for people who had backend management permissions (like Admins, Editors, or Moderators). Once their access is removed, they revert to being a regular follower (or just a member of the public if they haven't liked your page). They can still see your posts, comment, and interact with your Page like any other user.
  • Banning a User is for followers or audience members who are disruptive, abusive, or spammy. A banned user is completely blocked from your Page. They cannot see your Page, find it in search, comment on posts, message you, or see ads from your page. It effectively makes your Page invisible to them on Facebook.

Use removal for team members and collaborators. Use banning for trolls and rule-breakers.

How to Ban Someone from Your Facebook Page

When you have a user who is consistently violating your community standards - leaving hateful comments, spamming links, or harassing other followers - banning them is the best course of action. It protects your brand and the experience of your audience.

Banning from a Comment (The Easy Way)

The quickest way to ban someone is directly from a comment they’ve made.

  1. Find the problematic comment on one of your posts.
  2. Hover over the comment on desktop or tap-and-hold it on mobile.
  3. Click the three dots (...) that appear.
  4. A menu will open with options like "Hide comment" and "Delete comment." Choose the option that says "Ban [User’s Name]."
  5. Facebook will show a confirmation pop-up. You can optionally check a box to delete all of that user's recent comments as well, which is often a good idea. Click "Confirm."

Banning from Your Page Settings

If you need to ban someone proactively who hasn’t recently commented, you can do it manually through your settings.

  1. Navigate to your Page’s settings.
  2. Under "Settings," go to "Privacy," then select "Blocking."
  3. Under "Block users," you can start typing the name or email of the person you want to ban. As you type, Facebook will suggest profiles.
  4. Select the correct person from the list and click "Block." You will see them added to your blocked users list.

How to See and Manage Your Banned Users List

What if you ban someone by mistake? You can easily reverse it. The same "Blocking" section in your Page's Privacy settings contains a complete list of all users you've blocked. Simply browse for the user's name and click the "Unblock" button next to it. They will immediately regain the ability to see and interact with your Page.

Banning is not permanent unless you want it to be.

Best Practices for Page Access Management

Maintaining a secure and efficiently run Facebook Page goes beyond just adding or removing people. Adopting a few simple habits can prevent common problems before they start.

  • Conduct Regular Audits: At least once a quarter, review everyone who has access to your Page. Tastes and roles change, and it’s easy to forget about old freelancers or former employees who might still have a role. Remove anyone who doesn't actively need access anymore.
  • Use Strong, Unique Passwords: This goes for your own Facebook account. If an Admin's personal account is compromised, your Page is at risk. Encourage all members of your team with Page access to use two-factor authentication.
  • Think About Task Access First: Before making someone a full-blown Editor or Admin, ask if "task access" would be enough. If you’re hiring someone just to run ads or respond to comments, a limited role is much safer and more appropriate.
  • Communicate Changes Gracefully: When removing a team member who is leaving on good terms, send them a quick message to let them know you'll be removing their access. It's a professional courtesy that prevents awkward moments and maintains good relationships.
