How to Remove Admins from a Facebook Business Page

Removing someone as an admin from your Facebook Business Page can feel daunting if you've never done it before. Whether an employee is leaving, a freelance contract has ended, or you're simply restructuring your team's responsibilities, managing page access is a fundamental part of keeping your social media secure. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step walkthrough for removing users through both the Meta Business Suite on a desktop and the Facebook mobile app.

First, Understand Facebook Page Roles

Before you remove anyone, it's helpful to understand what different roles mean on a Facebook Business Page. When Meta shifted page management into its Business Suite, the roles became a bit more granular. Essentially, access is granted either to the Facebook Page directly or to the larger "Business Account" that owns the page. For most small businesses, you'll manage people who were added directly to the page.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the primary access tiers:

  • Admin Access (or "Full Control"): This is the highest level of permission. Someone with full control can manage all aspects of the page, including sending messages, creating content, viewing insights, running ads, and - most importantly - adding or removing other people, including other admins. You can only remove an admin if you also have admin-level access.
  • Partial Access (Task-based): This is for team members or collaborators who don’t need full control. You can assign them specific tasks like creating content, managing community activity (comments and messages), running ads, or viewing performance insights. People with partial access cannot manage page settings or add/remove other users.

Knowing the difference is important because it dictates who can remove whom. An Editor can't remove an Admin, but an Admin can remove anyone, including another Admin.

Why You Might Need to Remove an Admin

Managing who has access to your page isn't just a matter of housekeeping, it's a vital security measure. The reasons for removing an admin typically fall into a few common scenarios:

  • Employee Departures: When a team member who had page access leaves your company, removing their permissions should be part of the standard offboarding process. It's one of the first things you should do to protect your business assets.
  • Changing Agency or Freelancer Relationships: If you've been working with a marketing agency, a social media consultant, or a freelance contractor, their access should be revoked promptly once the contract ends.
  • Shift in Responsibilities: Sometimes, a team member's role changes internally. Someone who once needed admin access for strategic management might now only need content creation permissions. Downgrading their role is often a better option than complete removal in this case.
  • Security Concerns: If you suspect an account has been compromised or notice unusual activity on your page, immediately reviewing and trimming down your list of admins is a sound security move. Your best defense is limiting access to only those who absolutely need it.

The Two-Minute Pre-Removal Checklist

Before you hit the "remove" button, run through this quick checklist to avoid accidentally locking yourself out or creating other problems.

  1. Confirm Your Own Admin Status: You cannot remove another Admin unless you have Full Control yourself. It's the "admin privileges" golden rule. If you're not an admin, you'll have to ask someone who is to perform the removal for you.
  2. Ensure There is Another Admin: Never remove the only admin from a page without having at least one other person with Full Control. If you remove yourself or another admin and there are no others left, the page becomes "unowned" or orphaned, which can be an absolute nightmare to recover. As a best practice, every Business Page should have at least two trusted admins.
  3. Communicate the Change (If Appropriate): For current employees or collaborators whose roles are just changing, it's good practice to let them know their access will be modified. For former employees or terminated contractors, immediate removal without notification is your best bet for security.

How to Remove an Admin from a Facebook Page (Using a Desktop)

Meta now funnels most page management through the Meta Business Suite. This is the most reliable way to manage user permissions. Just follow these steps:

Step 1: Go to Meta Business Suite

Log in to the Facebook account that has admin access to the page you want to manage. Navigate to the Meta Business Suite. You can usually find a link to it in the left-hand menu of your Facebook homepage, or you can go directly to the URL.

Step 2: Access Your Page Settings

Once you're in the Business Suite, look for the "Settings" gear icon in the bottom-left corner of the sidebar menu. Click on it. This will take you to the settings backend for your connected business assets.

Step 3: Navigate to "People"

In the Settings menu, you'll see a panel for your "Business Account." Under that, click on "People." This is where you can view everyone who has access to your business account.

Step 4: Locate the User You Want to Remove

You will see a list of every person with access to your Business Account. Find the name of the person you want to remove from the list. Click on their name to display their details and see which assets (like your Facebook Page or Instagram account) they have access to.

Step 5: Revoke Access

On the right side of their name, click the three-dots menu icon (...) and select "Remove" from the dropdown menu. Facebook will show you a confirmation pop-up window, warning you that this action is permanent. It will detail exactly what access the user will lose. Confirm the removal, and you’re done. The user will be instantly removed and will no longer be able to manage the page.

Alternative Path: If you don't use a Business Account, you might manage roles through the Page settings directly. Go to your Page >, Settings >, New Pages Experience >, Page Access. From there, you can click the three dots next to a person's name and select "Remove access."

How to Remove an Admin Using the Facebook Mobile App

Managing page roles from your phone is just as easy, though the menus can look a little different. Here's how to do it.

Step 1: Open the Facebook App and Switch to Your Page Profile

Open your Facebook app and tap the menu icon (your profile picture) in the bottom-right corner. From there, tap the downward arrow next to your name and select the Business Page you want to manage. You are now "acting" as your page.

Step 2: Go to the Professional Dashboard

Once you're on your page's profile, tap on the "Manage" button a little ways down the page, which will take you to your Professional Dashboard. You can also get there by tapping the menu icon again while switched to your page's profile.

Step 3: Find "Page Access"

Scroll down within the Professional Dashboard until you find the "Your Tools" section. Tap on "Page Access."

Step 4: Select and Remove the User

You'll see a list of everyone with access to your page. Find the name of the person you want to remove. Tap the three-dots menu icon (...) to the right of their name. A set of options will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap "Remove from page."

You'll be asked to enter your Facebook password to confirm your identity and the change. After entering your password, tap "Confirm." The user will be immediately removed.

What Happens After an Admin is Removed?

Once you remove someone's access, the change is instant.

  • They will no longer see the page in their list of managed pages.
  • They lose all ability to post, comment, send messages, run ads, or view insights for the page.
  • They will not receive a notification that they've been removed.
  • Importantly, any content (posts, comments, etc.) they created while they were an admin will remain on the page. Removing a user does not delete their past work.

Troubleshooting Common Problems

Occasionally, you might hit a snag. Here are a few common issues and how to solve them.

"I can't see the option to remove someone."

This almost always means you don't have Full Control (Admin access). Only other admins can remove admins. You may only have task-based access. Check your own permission level or ask another admin on the page to handle the removal.

"The person I'm trying to remove is the page creator."

In some older page setups, Facebook gives special priority to the "Page Creator." Sometimes, you can't remove them unless they remove themselves. If you have a business dispute with the creator, you may have to go through Facebook's business support channels to prove ownership and get them removed.

"What if the only admin has left the company and we're locked out?"

This is a tough but common situation. If the only admin on a page is gone and you have no way of accessing their account, you will need to contact Facebook's business support. You'll likely need to go through a process to prove your legitimate claim to the page, which can involve providing business documents, IDs, or a notarized statement. It's time-consuming, which is why having at least two admins is so important to prevent this scenario in the first place.

Final Thoughts

Successfully removing an admin is a straightforward process once you know where to look in either the Meta Business Suite or the mobile app. By routinely auditing who has access to your Page and trimming permissions when necessary, you keep your business's online presence secure, organized, and under the control of the right people.
