How to Give Someone Full Control of a Facebook Page

Handing over the keys to your Facebook Page doesn't have to be a complicated process. Whether you're bringing on a business partner, hiring a social media marketing agency, or preparing to sell your company, granting someone full administrative control is a common and necessary task. This guide will walk you through exactly how to do it securely, demystify the different levels of access, and give you the peace of mind that you're making the right move for your brand.

Understanding the "New Pages Experience": Roles vs. Access

First, it's important to understand a major shift Facebook (now Meta) has made. You might be familiar with the old system of "Page Roles" which included titles like Admin, Editor, Moderator, Advertiser, and Analyst. While some Pages still operate on this "classic" model, most have been transitioned to the "New Pages Experience."

In this new system, the old roles have been simplified into two main categories:

  • People with Facebook access: This is the highest level of permission. Someone with Facebook access can switch into the Page and manage it directly on Facebook. Within this category, you can choose to grant "full control," which is the equivalent of the old Admin role.
  • People with task access: This level is for specialists who need to manage specific tasks using tools like Meta Business Suite or Creator Studio. They cannot switch into the Page's profile on Facebook itself. This is similar to the old Editor, Moderator, or Advertiser roles.

This article focuses on granting full control, which gives another person complete administrative power over your Page.

Why "Full Control" Is a Big Deal (and When to Use It)

Granting someone full control of your Facebook Page is the highest level of trust you can extend. It's more than just letting someone post content, it’s making them a co-owner of your Page's digital presence. Before you click "confirm," be absolutely clear about what this permission level entails.

Someone with full control can:

  • Create, manage, and delete any content on the Page, including posts, Stories, and ads.
  • Send messages as the Page and respond to comments and DMs.
  • View all Page Insights and performance data.
  • Manage Page settings, including changing the Page name or URL.
  • Link and unlink Instagram accounts.
  • Most importantly: Add, manage, and remove other people with access... including you.
  • Completely delete the Page permanently.

Because this role has so much power, you should only grant it to individuals you trust completely, like a co-founder, a long-term business partner, or the new owner of your business. For virtual assistants, new marketing hires, or agencies, "task access" is almost always the more appropriate and secure choice.

How to Grant Full Control: Step-by-Step on Desktop

You can grant full access to your Page through two primary methods: directly from your Page's professional dashboard or through the Meta Business Suite. We’ll cover both.

Method 1: Using the Professional Dashboard (From Your Page)

This is often the quickest way to add an individual if you're already working on your Page.

  1. Switch to Your Page's Profile: Navigate to your Facebook Page. If you are viewing it as your personal profile, you'll need to "switch" into managing the Page. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner of Facebook and select the Page you want to manage.
  2. Access Page Settings: Once you're managing the Page, click your Page's profile picture in the top-right again. From the dropdown menu, select Settings &, privacy, and then click Settings.
  3. Navigate to Page Access: On the left-hand menu of the Settings screen, look for the option that says New Pages Experience and click it. This will open up a few sub-options, including a tab labeled Page Access. Click on that.
  4. Add a New Person: You will see a list of people who currently have access. In the section "People with Facebook access," click the blue Add New button.
  5. Search for the Person: A pop-up window will appear with a search bar. Start typing the name or email address of the person you want to add. Be sure to select the correct person from the list that appears - double-check their profile picture to confirm it's the right account.
  6. Grant Full Control: This is the most important step. On the next screen, you will see a summary of what "Facebook access" means. Below this description, you'll find a toggle switch labeled "Allow this person to have full control." You must click this toggle to turn it on. When it's on, it will turn blue.
  7. Confirm and Send Invitation: After enabling full control, click the Give Access button. For security, Facebook will prompt you to re-enter your personal profile password to confirm the action. Once you've done that, the invitation is sent.

The person you invited will receive a notification to accept the admin invitation. Their access will be in a "pending" state until they accept it.

Method 2: Using the Meta Business Suite

If you manage multiple assets (Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts, ad accounts), Meta Business Suite is the more robust and organized tool for assigning permissions.

  1. Navigate to Business Suite: Go to business.facebook.com and make sure you've selected the correct business account from the dropdown in the top left if you manage more than one.
  2. Open Settings: Find the gear icon labeled Settings in the bottom-left navigation menu and click it.
  3. Go to "People": In the Settings menu, under the "Users" section, click on People.
  4. Add People: In the upper-right corner of the "People" screen, click the blue Add people button.
  5. Enter Email Address: Instead of searching by name, Business Suite requires you to enter the business email address of the person you're inviting. This adds a layer of professionalism and security. Click Next.
  6. Assign Assets &, Roles: On the next screen, you'll be prompted to assign which assets this person can access. Under the "Pages" or "New Pages Experience" sections, a list of your Pages will appear. Select the checkbox next to the Page you want them to manage.
  7. Enable Full Control: After selecting the Page, a list of permissions will appear on the right. You will see toggles for various tasks like "Content" and "Messages." At the very bottom of this list, under "Full control," click the toggle for Manage. This will automatically select all other permissions as well. A warning will likely pop up reminding you how much power this role provides.
  8. Send the Invitation: Click Next, review your selection, and then click Send request. The user will receive an email invitation to join your Business Suite and will need to accept it to gain access to the Page.

Important Precautions: Security and Trust

Granting full control is a serious decision. Once another person has this level of access, they can, in theory, remove you and take over the Page completely. While rare, it's something to be aware of.

  • Verify the Profile Twice: Always double-check that you are adding the correct Facebook profile. Scammers can create fake profiles that look like a trusted friend or colleague. If in doubt, send them a message or get on a quick call to confirm their username or the email associated with their account.
  • Require Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Strongly encourage anyone with full control of your Page to enable 2FA on their personal Facebook account. If their account gets compromised, your Page also becomes vulnerable. A secure team is the best defense for your business assets.
  • Review Permissions Annually: Make it a habit to review who has access to your Page at least once a year. If a partner is no longer involved or an agency's contract has ended, remove their access immediately. Old, forgotten admin accounts are a security liability.

Final Thoughts

Granting someone else full control over your Facebook Page is a straightforward process whether you use the Professional Dashboard or the Meta Business Suite. The key is understanding that "full control" provides complete administrative power, a permission that should only be granted to the most trusted individuals.
