How to Get a Facebook URL for a Page

Setting up a custom URL for your Facebook Page is one of those small changes that make a big impact on your brand's professionalism. Instead of sharing a long, random string of numbers, you get a clean, memorable link that’s easy to recognize and share. This guide will walk you through exactly how to find, create, and change your Facebook Page URL, along with some best practices to help you pick the perfect one.

What Exactly is a Facebook Page URL?

A Facebook Page URL is the web address that leads people directly to your page. When you first create a Facebook Page, it’s assigned a generic URL with a long string of numbers at the end, something like this:

facebook.com/pages/Your-Brand-Name/109873456...

This URL is functional, but it’s not pretty. It's hard to remember, difficult to fit on a business card, and doesn't exactly scream "professional."

What you really want is a custom URL, also known as a "vanity URL." This is created by setting a unique username for your page. Once set, your URL looks clean and branded, like this:

facebook.com/YourBrandName

This simple change has several powerful benefits for your brand presence online.

Why a Custom Facebook URL Matters

Spending a few minutes to set up a custom URL is a smart move for any business or creator. Here’s why:

  • It Strengthens Your Brand: A custom URL reinforces your brand identity. Seeing facebook.com/YourBrandName is much clearer and more authoritative than a random string of numbers. It builds credibility and lets people know they've landed in the right place.
  • It's Memorable and Easy to Share: Imagine telling a customer to find you on Facebook. "Just search for us at facebook.com/TessasBakeryNYC" is much easier than reciting a 15-digit number. You can easily add it to business cards, email signatures, podcast outros, and posters.
  • It Improves A-to-B Consistency: For a cohesive online presence, your username should be consistent across all platforms. If your brand is @TessasBakeryNYC on Instagram and Threads, your Facebook URL should be facebook.com/TessasBakeryNYC too. This consistency makes it incredibly easy for your followers to find you everywhere.
  • It’s Better for Search: While a minor factor, a clean URL with your brand name is more user-friendly and slightly more optimized for search engines. When someone googles your brand, a URL that matches your business name is a strong signal of relevance for both the search engine and the user.

How to Find Your Current Facebook Page URL

Before you change anything, you need to know what your current URL is. Finding it is simple and only takes a few seconds.

On a Desktop Computer:

  1. Log into your Facebook account and navigate to the Facebook Page you manage.
  2. Once you're on your Page's main feed, look at the address bar at the top of your web browser.
  3. The URL displayed is your current Facebook Page URL. Simply copy it from there.

On the Facebook Mobile App:

  1. Open the Facebook app and go to your Page.
  2. Below the page title and cover photo, you'll see a row of buttons (like "Promote," "Manage," etc.). On the far right, tap the button with three dots (...).
  3. A menu will appear at the bottom of the screen. Look for the section titled "Your Page link."
  4. Tap Copy Link to copy the URL to your clipboard.

How to Set or Change Your Facebook Page Username (and Custom URL)

Ready to claim your custom URL? The process involves setting or editing your Page’s "username," which then becomes the custom URL. You must be an Admin of the page to do this. While Facebook used to require pages to have a minimum number of likes (e.g., 25), that rule is no longer strictly enforced for most new Pages. However, your Page must be published and active.

The easiest way to do this is on a desktop computer through your Page's settings.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Go to Your Facebook Page: First, navigate to the Facebook Page for which you want to set the URL.
  2. Switch to Managing the Page: If you're viewing as your personal profile, make sure to click "Switch" to start managing the Page directly.
  3. Access Page Settings: In the left-hand sidebar menu under "Manage Page," click on Settings.
  4. Edit Username: You'll land on the "General Page Settings" screen. The first two options will be "Name" and "Username." Next to Username, click the Edit link.
  5. Enter Your Desired Username: A box will pop up where you can type your preferred username. The username can contain letters, numbers, and periods (.), but can't consist of only generic terms or extensions (like .com). It must be at least five characters long.
  6. As you type, Facebook will automatically check if the username is available. If it’s taken, a red "X" and a message will appear. If it’s available, you’ll see a green checkmark.
  7. Save Your Changes: Once you've found an available username you’re happy with, click the Save Changes button. You may be asked to re-enter your Facebook password to confirm the change.

That’s it! Your new custom URL is now live. You can test it by typing facebook.com/YourNewUsername into your browser, and it should redirect you straight to your Page.

What if I've been moved to Meta Business Suite?

Meta is increasingly integrating tools into the Meta Business Suite. If you manage your page there, the steps are slightly different but still straightforward:

  1. Go to Meta Business Suite.
  2. If you manage multiple pages, select the correct one from the dropdown menu in the top left.
  3. In the far-left menu, click on All tools.
  4. Under the "Manage" column, select Page settings. This will often open a new tab that looks like the classic Facebook Page settings view.
  5. From there, follow steps 4-6 from the section above - find the Username field, click "Edit," and save your new username.

Best Practices for Choosing Your Facebook Username

Picking the right username is more art than science, but following a few key principles will give you the best results. A great handle is an important piece of your digital branding.

  • Use Your Business Name: This is the most obvious and usually the best option. If your business is "Sunset Coffee Roasters," your first choice should be `SunsetCoffeeRoasters`.
  • Maintain Cross-Platform Consistency: Check what username you're using on Instagram, TikTok, X, and your website. Using the same handle everywhere makes you instantly recognizable and easy for followers to find. Brand consistency builds trust.
  • Keep It Short and Simple: The shorter, the better. Avoid long, complicated names that are hard to remember or type. `facebook.com/SCSweets` is much better than `facebook.com/SarahsCustomSweetsAndCakes`.
  • Avoid Hyphens and Awkward Numbers: While usernames can contain periods, it's best to avoid them if possible. Special characters and numbers can make a URL look less professional and are harder to communicate verbally. An exception is if numbers are a core part of your brand name (e.g., 'Forever21').
  • Make It Easy to Pronounce and Spell: Read it out loud. If it doesn't roll off the tongue, it might be too complicated. You want a URL you can easily tell someone over the phone or in a video.

Troubleshooting Common Roadblocks

Sometimes, setting your username doesn’t go as planned. Here are some common problems and how to solve them.

"This username isn't available."

If your ideal username is already taken, don't panic. You have a few options to create a unique and still-professional alternative:

  • Add a location: Try adding your city or state abbreviation. For example, `TessasBakeryNYC` or `TessasBakeryUSA`.
  • Add a keyword: Add a word that describes what you do. For example, `SunsetCoffeeCo` or `GetSunsetCoffee`.
  • Use an official modifier: Words like "Official," "HQ," or "Inc" can work. For instance, `SunsetCoffeeOfficial`.
  • Rearrange the words: If your brand has multiple words, see if a different order is available.

"This Page isn't eligible to have a username."

This message usually appears for one of these reasons:

  • Your Page is very new: Sometimes Facebook has an unpublished waiting period for brand-new pages to prevent spam. Give it a few days, post some content, get a few followers, and try again.
  • You aren't an Admin: Only users with an Admin role can set or change a Page's username. Editors, moderators, and other roles don't have this permission. Check your Page Roles in settings.
  • The Page has violations: If your Page has violated Facebook's community standards, its ability to claim a username might be temporarily restricted.

"I want to change my existing username."

You can change your username using the same steps outlined above. However, keep a few things in mind:

  • Your old URL will no longer work. Anyone clicking a link with your old username will get an error page. You'll need to update your URL on your website, email signature, marketing materials, and anywhere else it's listed.
  • Your old username is released. As soon as you change it, your old username becomes available for someone else to claim.
  • Changing it too often can look suspicious. Facebook may temporarily lock your ability to change the username again if you do it repeatedly in a short period. Choose a name you plan to stick with.

Final Thoughts

Claiming a custom Facebook URL for your page is a quick yet meaningful task that instantly polishes your brand’s online presence. A clean, memorable, and consistent URL not only looks more professional but also makes it significantly easier for your audience to find you, remember you, and share your page with others.
