How to Find Draft Posts on Facebook

By Spencer Lanoue
November 11, 2025

You've written the perfect Facebook post and found just the right image, but you hit "Save as Draft" because you wanted to tweak it later. Now, you’re ready to publish, but the post is nowhere to be found. This article will guide you on how to find those elusive draft posts on Facebook, whether you're using a desktop, a mobile app, or managing your personal profile, business page, or group.

Why Finding Facebook Drafts Can Be Tricky

Before jumping into the step-by-step instructions, it helps to understand why this feels so complicated. The location of your saved drafts on Facebook isn’t always intuitive, and it changes depending on where you were writing the post. There isn't just one universal drafts folder for your entire account.

Here’s the breakdown of what determines where your draft is hiding:

  • Personal Profile vs. Business Page: How you find a draft for your personal timeline is very different from finding a draft for a Business Page. Page drafts are managed within a dedicated set of tools, while profile drafts are more temporary.
  • Device: The process differs between the Facebook desktop website and the mobile app (both iOS and Android). What's easy to find on one might seem impossible on the other.
  • Draft Expiration: Not all drafts are saved forever. Drafts for personal profiles, in particular, can be very temporary and may be automatically deleted after just a few days. Business Page drafts are generally more permanent.

Knowing this context is half the battle. Now, let’s track down your content based on where you created it.

How to Find Facebook Drafts on a Mobile Device (iOS &, Android App)

Most of us create content on the go, making the mobile app a common place to save drafts. The process is a bit different for personal profiles versus Business Pages.

Finding Personal Profile Drafts on Mobile

Saved drafts on your personal Facebook profile are fleeting. Unlike Business Pages, there's no visible "Drafts" folder you can browse. Instead, Facebook usually prompts you to finish a draft when you start creating a new post.

Here’s how you can usually trigger it:

  1. Open your Facebook app and go to your profile.
  2. Tap the "What's on your mind?" field, as if you’re about to write a new post from scratch.
  3. A notification or pop-up should immediately appear that says something like, "You have a saved draft. Would you like to continue editing it?" or "Finish your previous post?"
  4. Tap "Open Draft" or "Continue" to load the content.

What if the notification doesn't appear? Unfortunately, this often means the draft has been automatically discarded. Personal profile drafts are meant as a short-term safeguard, not long-term storage. If more than three days have passed, or you’ve logged out and back in multiple times, the draft may be gone for good.

Finding Business Page Drafts on Mobile (Meta Business Suite App)

If you're managing a Business Page, all of your scheduling and content management now runs through the Meta Business Suite app. This is actually good news, as Business Suite provides a much more organized and reliable place for your drafts.

Follow these steps to find drafts for your Facebook Page:

  1. Make sure you have the Meta Business Suite app installed on your phone. If not, download it from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Open the app and select the correct Business Page you are managing (if you manage more than one).
  3. Tap the "Content" tab, often found in the bottom navigation bar.
  4. In the Content section, you'll see several tabs at the top: "Published," "Scheduled," and "Drafts."
  5. Tap on the "Drafts" tab. This will display a list of all unpublished posts you have saved for that page.
  6. From here, you can tap on any draft to open it, continue editing, schedule it for later, or publish it immediately.

Unlike personal drafts, drafts saved in Business Suite don't typically expire, making it a much safer place to store in-progress work.

How to Find Facebook Drafts on a Desktop Computer

The desktop experience provides more robust tools, especially for page managers. Let's cover the procedures for both personal profiles and business pages.

Finding Personal Profile Drafts on Desktop

Just like on mobile, personal profile drafts on desktop are often hidden until you return to the composer window. They are designed to save you from accidentally losing your work, not for long-term storage.

  1. Navigate to the Facebook homepage in your web browser.
  2. Click on the "What's on your mind, [Your Name]?" box at the top of your News Feed to open the post composer.
  3. As soon as the composer window pops up, a blue link should appear at the top that says "See Drafts."
  4. Click on that link to view a list of your most recent saved drafts. Select the one you want to continue working on.

If that link doesn't appear, try typing a single character into the post composer field - sometimes this can trigger the draft notification to appear. If it still doesn't show up, the draft has likely been discarded by the system.

Finding Business Page Drafts on Desktop (Via Meta Business Suite)

Meta Business Suite is the definitive place to manage all content creation for a Facebook Business Page on a desktop. It’s organized, permanent, and the same across all devices.

Here’s the most reliable way to find your saved page drafts:

  1. Go to business.facebook.com and sign in.
  2. If you manage multiple assets, make sure you've selected the correct business account and Facebook page from the dropdown menu in the top left corner.
  3. From the left-hand navigation menu, click on "Content" or "Planner". Each offers a path to drafts. Let's use the Content tab for clarity.
  4. Once you're in the Content tab, you'll see a navigation bar near the top of the screen with filters like "Published," "Scheduled," and right there, "Drafts."
  5. Click the "Drafts" tab to see a well-organized list of every post you’ve saved.
  6. Here, you can click the three dots next to any draft to find options to Edit post, Publish now, Schedule, or Delete it.

This organized system is one of the main advantages of managing a Business Page. Your creative work is stored safely until you are completely ready to use it.

Finding Drafts for Facebook Groups

Saved drafts in Facebook Groups work a bit differently. You often find them directly within the group you were posting to.

  1. Go to the specific Facebook Group where you saved the draft.
  2. Look for the posting tools section near the top of the group's page. Often on the left-hand sidebar inside the group, you will see an "Admin tools" section.
  3. Inside these tools, you should find a link for "Posts from members" or something similar, which may contain a "Drafts" tab.
  4. Alternatively, simply start creating a new post. Similar to personal profiles, you might get a prompt notifying you about an unsaved draft that you can then open.

The reliability here can vary depending on the group's settings and Facebook's current interface, but drafts are typically tied directly to the group itself.

What If My Draft Is Truly Gone? Proactive Tips for Next Time

If you've searched everywhere and still can't find your post, it’s likely been permanently deleted by Facebook, which is a common scenario for personal profile drafts. It’s a frustrating experience that can cost you time and creative energy. Here’s what you can do to prevent it from happening again.

  • Compose Long Posts Externally: For important or lengthy posts, always write the content in a separate application like Google Docs, a notes app, or a dedicated writing tool. This gives you a permanent backup of the text. When you're ready, simply copy and paste it into Facebook.
  • Use the "Only Me" Privacy Setting: If you want to see how a post will look on your personal profile before sharing it publicly, don't save it as a draft. Instead, publish the post but set the audience to "Only Me." This will post it to your timeline where only you can see it. You can edit it as much as you'd like, and once you’re happy with it, you can simply change the audience to Public or Friends.
  • Leverage a Social Media Management Tool: Dedicated social media scheduling platforms are built for safely storing and organizing content. They don't just schedule - they provide a central hub for all your content ideas and drafts, across all platforms, without the risk of an unexpected deletion.

Final Thoughts

Finding your Facebook drafts doesn't have to be a scavenger hunt. The key is knowing that the location depends entirely on whether you were posting to a personal profile, a Business Page, or a Group. Page drafts live permanently in Meta Business Suite, while personal drafts are temporary and best found by starting a new post.

To avoid the entire loop of lost drafts and wasted effort in the future, we designed Postbase with a clear, visual content calendar. We were often frustrated by drafts that would disappear or get buried in Facebook's messy interface, so we built a centralized place where all our scheduled content and drafts - for all social platforms - live safely. It’s much more calming to know exactly where your work is, ready to go whenever you decide it's perfect.
