How to Share a LinkedIn URL

Knowing how to send someone a LinkedIn link seems like it should be simple, but the method changes depending on what you’re trying to share and which device you’re using. Whether you're sending your personal profile link to a recruiter, sharing a company page with a colleague, or pointing a friend to an interesting post, grabbing the correct URL is a fundamental part of networking. This guide will walk you through exactly how to find and share URLs for profiles, pages, posts, and more on both desktop and mobile.

Why the Right LinkedIn URL Matters

Before we get into the steps, it’s worth noting why this is so important. A clean, professional-looking URL is a small but meaningful part of your personal brand. When you add a URL to your email signature, resume, or business card, you want it to be memorable and easy to read. A randomly generated URL filled with numbers and letters (linkedin.com/in/jane-doe-a1b2c3d4) looks less polished than a customized one (linkedin.com/in/janedoe). Taking a moment to fine-tune and share the correct links reflects an attention to detail that doesn’t go unnoticed.

This article will show you not just how to find these links, but how to find the best version of them to present yourself professionally online.

How to Share Your Own LinkedIn Profile URL

This is perhaps the most common URL you’ll share. You'll need it for job applications, networking emails, and personal brand building. Here’s how to find the perfect, clean version of your profile link.

On Desktop

Grabbing your URL on a desktop or laptop is the easiest way to customize it for a professional appearance.

  1. Navigate to your LinkedIn homepage. In the top navigation bar, click on the Me icon (which shows your profile picture).
  2. From the dropdown menu, select View Profile. This will take you to your personal profile page.
  3. Look to the upper-right corner of your profile. You’ll see a box with the heading, Public profile &, URL. Click the Edit public profile &, URL link.
  4. A new tab will open, showing you what your profile looks like to people who aren’t in your network. On the upper-right side of this page, you’ll find another box titled Edit your custom URL.
  5. Your personalized public profile URL will be here, such as www.linkedin.com/in/yourname. Click the pencil icon to change it if you haven't already. This is the URL you should copy and share. It's clean, professional, and directly leads to your public profile.

Pro Tip: If your custom URL is already taken, try adding a middle initial, your industry, or a meaningful number. For example, linkedin.com/in/john-doe-marketing or linkedin.com/in/marysmithcpa.

On the LinkedIn Mobile App (iOS &, Android)

You can also quickly grab your URL from your phone when you're on the move. While you have less customization control here, it’s great for sending a link in a text or direct message.

  1. Open the LinkedIn app and tap your profile picture in the top-left corner.
  2. From the slide-out menu, tap View Profile.
  3. Tap the three-dot icon (... More) located below your headline, next to the "Open to" and "Add section" buttons.
  4. A pop-up menu will appear from the bottom of the screen. Tap on Contact info.
  5. In the new screen, you’ll see a section called Your Profile which lists your unique LinkedIn profile URL. Tap and hold the link to get the option to copy it directly to your clipboard.

Alternatively, some app versions have a prominent "Share profile via..." option in that same three-dot menu, which lets you send the link directly to your messenger, email, or social apps.

How to Share Someone Else's LinkedIn Profile URL

Whether you're making an introduction or recommending a colleague, sharing another person's profile is a common networking courtesy. The process is slightly different but just as straightforward.

On Desktop

  1. Navigate to the person's profile you wish to share.
  2. The easiest method is to simply copy the URL directly from your browser's address bar at the top of the screen. It's already the correct public link.
  3. For a more integrated method, click the More... button located directly under their name and profile photo.
  4. A dropdown menu will appear. You have two primary options: Share profile in a message to send the profile directly through a LinkedIn message, or Copy link to profile, which copies the user's public URL to your clipboard for use elsewhere.

On the LinkedIn Mobile App

  1. Open the LinkedIn app and go to the profile you want to share.
  2. Tap the three-dot icon (...) located to the right of the "Message" and "Connect" buttons at the top of their profile.
  3. From the pop-up menu, select Share via...
4. This action will pull up your phone's native sharing options, allowing you to send the profile link via text message, WhatsApp, email, Slack, or any other installed application. You can also simply select "Copy" to add the URL to your clipboard.

Sharing Other Types of LinkedIn Content URLs

LinkedIn isn't just about personal profiles. You may want to share specific company updates, job postings, articles, or other content. Here’s how to find the specific URL for almost anything on the platform.

How to Share a LinkedIn Company Page

  • On Desktop: Navigate to the company's page. The direct, shareable URL is right there in your browser's address bar. You can also click the three-dot "More" button next to "Follow" and select "Share company profile."
• On Mobile: Search for and navigate to the company page. At the top of the page, next to the company name, tap the three-dot icon (...). Then, tap Share via... to bring up your phone's sharing options.

How to Share a Specific LinkedIn Post

Found a great piece of content or want to boost a colleague's recent announcement? Sharing a direct link to a post is the way to do it.

  • On Desktop: Find the post you want to share. Click the three-dot icon (...) in the top-right corner of the post itself. A menu will appear. Click Copy link to post. This gives you a permanent URL dedicated solely to that specific update.
  • On Mobile: The process is very similar. Find the post, tap the three-dot icon (...) in the top-right corner, and then select Copy link to post.

How to Share a LinkedIn Article

LinkedIn Articles are longer, blog-style posts. Sharing them is similar to sharing a regular web page.

  • On Desktop: Open the article. You can either copy the URL from your browser’s address bar or click the circular "Share" button, which you can usually find under the author’s name or at the bottom of the article. This will give you options to share on LinkedIn or copy the direct link.
  • On Mobile: When viewing an article, you'll see a prominent "Share" icon at the top of the interface. Tap it to either share directly within the LinkedIn ecosystem or to copy the link.

How to Share a LinkedIn Job Posting

  • On Desktop: Go to the specific job listing page. The link in your address bar is the shareable URL. You can also click the dedicated Share button, usually located right under the job title.
  • On Mobile: Just below the "Apply" button on any job listing, you’ll see a Share icon (an arrow pointing up from a box). Tap that to get the link or share it via your apps.

Best Practices for a Professional Share

Now that you know how to grab any link, here are a few tips to make sure you're sharing it like a pro.

Always Use Your Custom URL

As we mentioned earlier, your customized URL for your personal profile looks much cleaner. Make it a habit to check yours and use it in your resume, portfolio, email signature, and business card. It’s a subtle signal of professionalism.

Provide Context

Never just drop a link in a message without explanation. A short introduction makes all the difference. For example:

  • "Hi Mark, here is the link to Jane's profile, as requested. She has fantastic experience in project management."
  • "Check out this post from our company's latest announcement - thought you'd find it interesting!"
  • "Here’s my LinkedIn profile. Looking forward to connecting and discussing the role further."

Context builds rapport and ensures the person on the receiving end understands why they should click.

Add Your URL to Key Digital Locations

Make your LinkedIn profile an organic part of your digital presence. Add the URL to your other social media bios (like on X/Twitter or your Instagram bio), your personal website, and any portfolios you maintain. This cross-pollination helps build a cohesive and discoverable personal brand.
