How to Repost Highlights on Instagram Story

Your Instagram Highlights are more than just a graveyard for old Stories, they're a curated collection of your brand's best moments, important information, and top-performing content. But just sitting on your profile, they only serve new visitors. This guide will show you exactly how to repost those Highlights back into your active Story, turning evergreen content into fresh engagement and reminding your audience of what matters most.

Why You Should Repost Highlights to Your Story

Before getting into the step-by-step, it’s helpful to understand why this is a smart strategy. Reposting Highlights isn't just about filling your content calendar, it's a strategic move to maximize the value of content you've already created. Your audience likely missed some of it the first time around, and a well-timed reshare can make a huge impact.

Breathe New Life into Evergreen Content

Think about your most important Highlights: your "About Us," "FAQ," "Reviews," or "How to Order." These contain valuable information that current followers may have forgotten and new followers haven't seen. Reposting them once a month or once a quarter puts this information front-and-center again without you having to recreate the wheel. It's an effortless way to keep your community informed.

Promote Time-Sensitive Offers and Events

Do you have a Highlight dedicated to an ongoing sale, a new product launch, or an upcoming event? Don't let it just sit there. By reposting a key slide from that Highlight to your Story, you create a sense of urgency. Add a countdown sticker or a "Link in Bio" reminder to drive immediate action. This tactic transforms a static piece of content into a powerful, timely call-to-action.

Showcase Social Proof and User-Generated Content (UGC)

Your "Clients Love Us" or "Community" Highlight filled with glowing reviews and tagged customer posts is one of your greatest marketing assets. Reposting these stories reminds your audience that real people are using and loving what you offer. It builds trust and encourages others to share their own experiences, creating a powerful cycle of organic brand advocacy.

The Step-by-Step Guide: How to Repost Your Own Highlights

The good news is that Instagram makes it very simple to share a story from your own existing Highlights. The entire process takes just a few seconds.

  1. Go to Your Instagram Profile: Open the Instagram app and navigate to your main profile page where your bio and post grid are displayed.
  2. Find the Highlight You Want to Repost: Your Highlights are located right below your bio and above your post grid. Scroll through them and find the one containing the Story you want to share.
  3. Tap and Hold the Highlight Circle: Instead of a quick tap (which would open the Highlight for viewing), press down on the Highlight cover and hold your finger there for a moment. This will bring up a menu with a few options.
  4. Select "Send to...": In the menu that appears, you’ll see options like "Edit Highlight," "Remove from Highlights," and "Send to...". Tap on "Send to...".
  5. Add it to Your Story: On the next screen, you’ll see a list of accounts you can send the Highlight to via Direct Message. At the very top, you’ll see your own profile picture with a blue "Share" button next to the text "Your Story." Tap that Share button.
  6. Customize Your Story: Instagram will now take you to the standard Story editing screen. The Highlight you selected will appear as a sticker-like element. You can resize it, rotate it, place it anywhere on the screen, and change the background color. More importantly, this is your chance to add new context with text, GIFs, polls, quizzes, or music to make it fresh.
  7. Share It: Once you’re happy with the new design, tap the "Your Story" button at the bottom left to post it live.

That's it! When your followers tap on the reposted item in your Story, they will be taken directly to that specific Highlight, where they can continue to watch the rest of the Stories you've saved there.

What About Reposting Someone Else's Highlights?

This is where things get a bit more tricky. Currently, Instagram does not have a native, built-in feature to directly share a Story from someone else's Highlight to your own Story. However, there are two common and effective workarounds marketers and creators use.

Method 1: Screenshot or Screen Record (With Proper Credit)

This is the most common method for sharing content from someone else's Highlight. It’s simple, but there's a huge rule you must follow: always give clear and prominent credit to the original creator. Failing to do so is a major breach of social media etiquette.

  1. Open the user's profile and tap to view the Highlight you want to share.
  2. When you get to the specific Story slide you want to feature, take a screenshot. If it's a video, use your phone's built-in screen recording function.
  3. Open your Instagram Story editor and select the screenshot or screen recording from your camera roll.
  4. Crucially, tap the screen to add text and type "@" followed by the original creator's username. Make the tag large, easy to read, and tap it to cycle through different styles. A small, hidden tag is just as bad as no tag at all.
  5. Consider adding text that gives context, like "Love this review from @username!" or "Amazing tips from @username! 🔥"
  6. Share your story.

This method allows you to share any visual content, but be aware that the quality might be slightly lower than the original. The most important thing is celebrating the original creator and driving traffic back to them.

Method 2: Sharing if You've Been Tagged

Sometimes, what you want to share is a specific Story from within a Highlight in which you were tagged. In this case, you have a more direct option.

When someone mentions you in their Story, you get a notification in your Direct Messages that includes an "Add to Your Story" button. This button is active for 24 hours after they post. If they've added that same story to one of their Highlights, your DM notification might be long gone.

So, while you can't go to their Highlight and share it, this method is a reminder to act fast. Whenever you get tagged in a great piece of UGC, use the "Add to Your Story" button immediately and then save it to your own Highlight for future use.

3 Quick Strategies for Making Reposted Highlights More Engaging

Simply reposting a Highlight is good, but adding a strategic layer of engagement can multiply its effectiveness.

1. Use the "Quiz" Sticker for FAQs

Repost a slide from your "FAQ" Highlight that answers a common question. On top of it, place a Quiz sticker with the same question and a few possible answers (one correct). This turns a passive piece of information into a fun, interactive game.

2. Add a Poll to Garner Feedback

Suppose you repost a beautiful photo of a product from your "New Arrivals" Highlight. Add a poll sticker that asks, "What do you think of this color?" or "Should we restock this?" It generates engagement and gives you valuable market research at the same time.

3. Use the Countdown Sticker for Urgency

If you're reposting a Story about an upcoming sale from an "Events" Highlight, slap a Countdown sticker on it. Followers can tap the sticker to set a reminder for when the event begins. This is far more effective at driving action than a static image alone.

Final Thoughts

Reposting your Instagram Highlights is a straightforward and effective way to revive your best content, keep your audience informed, and drive meaningful engagement. Whether you’re reminding followers about your business hours from an "Info" Highlight or sharing powerful testimonials, this simple technique works to reinforce your brand message and make your content work harder for you.
