How to Link Spotify to Instagram

Music is a huge part of how we express ourselves, and Instagram is where we share our lives. Bringing the two together lets you share the soundtrack to your moments, promote your latest track, or simply connect with followers over a shared favorite song. This guide breaks down every way you can link Spotify to your Instagram profile, from sharing a quick song on your Story to creating a permanent link in your bio.

Sharing Spotify Music to Your Instagram Story

This is the most direct and popular way to share what you're listening to. When you share a song from Spotify to your Instagram Story, it creates an interactive sticker. Anyone who views your Story can tap the sticker to listen to the full track directly in the Spotify app. It’s perfect for sharing a song you have on repeat or reacting to a new album drop.

Step-by-Step Guide for Sharing to Stories:

The process is nearly identical for both iPhone and Android users.

  1. Open the Spotify App: Navigate to the song, album, or playlist you want to share.
  2. Find the Share Menu: On the now playing screen, tap the Share icon (it looks like a box with an arrow coming out of it) or a three-dots icon (...) and then select "Share."
  3. Choose "Instagram Stories": A list of apps will appear. Tap on "Instagram Stories." This will automatically switch you over to a new Instagram Story draft.
  4. Customize Your Story: The screen will display the song's or playlist's cover art as a sticker. From here, you can treat it like any other Story.
    • Resize and reposition the sticker by pinching and dragging it.
    • Add a background. You can take a new photo, upload one from your gallery, or just pick a solid color.
    • Add text, GIFs, polls, quizzes, or any other interactive sticker to make your Story more engaging. For example, add a poll asking "Banger or no?"
  5. Post Your Story: Once you're happy with how it looks, tap "Your Story" to post it for all your followers, or send it to "Close Friends."

When someone taps on the cover art in your Story, they'll see a small "Play on Spotify" prompt. Tapping that will open the song or playlist directly in their Spotify app, creating a seamless bridge between the two platforms.

Adding a Spotify Link to Your Instagram Bio

Your Instagram bio is prime real estate. It's the only place on your main profile where you can post a clickable link, making it the perfect spot to direct followers to your Spotify profile, a specific playlist that represents your brand, or your latest musical release.

Why Put a Spotify Link in Your Bio?

This method is all about long-term strategy. Unlike a Story that disappears in 24 hours, a link in your bio is a permanent fixture that new visitors will see right away.

  • For Artists and Bands: It’s a direct funnel to drive followers from Instagram to Spotify, where they can stream your music, follow your artist profile, and boost your numbers.
  • For Curators and Influencers: Link to a curated playlist to establish your taste and build a community around a specific vibe or mood.
  • For Businesses: Create brand playlists that capture your company’s personality. A coffee shop could link to a "Morning Buzz" playlist, while a fitness brand might share a "Workout Power Hour" mix.

How to Add the Link to Your Bio:

  1. Get Your Spotify Link:
    • First, open Spotify.
    • Go to the playlist, song, album, or artist profile you want to share.
    • Tap the three dots (...) to open the menu.
    • Select Share, and then tap Copy Link.
  2. Head Over to Instagram:
    • Open your Instagram profile page.
    • Tap on Edit Profile.
    • Find the Website field. Important: Do not paste the link in the "Bio" text field itself, as it won't be clickable there. Use the dedicated "Website" field.
    • Paste your Spotify link into the "Website" field.
    • Tap Done or the checkmark to save your changes.

Now, visitors to your Instagram profile will see a clickable link in your bio. You can encourage people to check it out by referencing it in your bio text, like "My official playlist 👇" or "Listen to my new single!"

Sharing a Spotify Audio Clip in a Feed Post or Reel (The Workaround)

Instagram doesn't have a native feature to embed a playable Spotify track directly into a feed post. But music is the heart of Reels and a great way to elevate static photos. So, how do you get your Spotify sound into a permanent grid post? The key is to blend the audio and visual together before you post.

Method 1: Use Instagram's Music Library (For Popular Songs)

If the song you want to share is commercially released, there's a good chance it's already in Instagram's extensive music library.

  1. Create a new Reel or Feed Post (a video post or a photo you want to add music to).
  2. When editing your Reel or before posting your photo, tap the Audio or Music icon.
  3. Search for the song from Spotify on Instagram's search bar.
  4. Select the track and choose the specific 15-90 second clip you want to feature.
  5. Finalize the rest of your post - add a cover photo, write a caption, tag accounts - and share.

In your caption, you can still shout out the artist and song title and tell people they can listen to the full version on Spotify, encouraging them to find it themselves.

Method 2: Screen Record with Sound

This is a great DIY method for sharing a specific part of a song that highlights what you love about it - be it an awesome riff, cool lyric, or great beat drop. This also works for podcasts or audio samples that might not be in the Instagram music library.

  1. Cue Up Your Song in Spotify: Open Spotify and get the track ready to play at the exact spot you want to record.
  2. Start Screen Recording:
    • On an iPhone, swipe down from the top-right corner to open the Control Center and tap the screen record icon (a circle within a circle).
    • On Android, swipe down from the top of the screen and find the "Screen recorder" tile in your Quick Settings.
Make sure your phone's media sound is being recorded, not just the microphone audio.
  3. Play the Music: Switch to Spotify and play the song clip you want to capture (up to 90 seconds for a Reel). The phone will be recording the screen (with the cover art showing) and playing the audio.
  4. Stop Recording: Stop the screen recording once you've captured the clip. It will be saved to your photo gallery.
  5. Edit and Upload: You can trim the start and end of the video in your phone's photo editor to get it just right. Then, upload this video clip as an Instagram Reel or feed post.

This gives you a video file with your chosen music embedded, looking and sounding exactly how you designed it.

Go Deeper: Why Integrating Music Makes Your Brand Stronger

Linking Spotify isn't just a technical "how-to", it’s a powerful strategy for building an organic connection with your audience. Music evokes emotion and sets a mood far more effectively than captions alone.

Build a Brand Persona

The music you share helps define your brand's personality. A high-energy workout-playlist solidifies a fitness brand's motivating persona. A mellow, lo-fi beats list creates a calming vibe for a bookstore or cafe. This sonic branding makes your social media presence more memorable and multi-dimensional.

Connect Authentically

For artists and creators, sharing music from Spotify isn't just promotion - it's sharing a piece of your creative process and inspiration. You can share playlists of songs that influenced your new album, songs you're currently obsessed with, or tracks from collaborators. This builds a deeper, more authentic relationship with fans beyond just posting polished album art.

Drive Community Engagement

Don't just share music, have a conversation about it. Use your Instagram Stories to ask followers to share their favorite song from a new album using the Spotify sticker. Create a collaborative playlist on Spotify and invite your audience to add songs to it, posting the link in your bio. Turning a one-way share into a two-way dialogue turns followers into an actively participating community.

Final Thoughts

Connecting your Spotify and Instagram allows you to add another layer of personality and community to your profile. By sharing to Stories, embedding sounds in Reels, or dropping a strategic link in your bio, you can promote artists, establish a brand identity, and connect with followers on a much deeper level than a simple photo allows.

Crafting all of this creative content is step one, but keeping your social media vibrant requires consistency. If you find yourself jumping between creating Reels, designing Stories with music, writing captions, and figuring out the best time to post, it can get chaotic pretty quickly. That's why we built Postbase with a clean, visual calendar to help you plan everything out. You can see your entire content strategy at a glance, drag and drop posts to reschedule, and make sure that every piece of your brand's story - including its soundtrack - goes live exactly when it should.
