How to Link Facebook and Instagram Posts

By Spencer Lanoue

Juggling two separate social media feeds can feel like a full-time job, but connecting your Facebook Business Page and your Instagram account is the single best way to streamline your workflow. This guide breaks down exactly how to link your profiles, manage cross-posting, and troubleshoot the little hiccups that can pop up along the way. We'll cover everything from the initial setup on your phone or desktop to the daily benefits of a connected social media presence.

First, Why Should You Link Your Facebook and Instagram Accounts?

Connecting your accounts is more than just a minor convenience, it unlocks a suite of features that can save you time and make your marketing more effective. If you’ve been putting this off, think about what you could gain.

  • Streamlined Content Sharing: This is the big one. Once linked, you can automatically share your Instagram feed posts, Reels, and Stories to your Facebook Page with a single tap. No more downloading and re-uploading the same content across different apps.
  • A Unified Inbox: Managing comments and messages across two platforms is chaotic. Linking your accounts allows you to manage Instagram Direct Messages and Facebook Messenger conversations from one place - your Meta Business Suite inbox. This makes community management so much more manageable.
  • Better Ad Targeting: When you run ads through Meta, having your accounts linked gives you more powerful options. You can create audiences based on people who have engaged with either your Instagram profile or your Facebook Page, leading to more cohesive and effective campaigns.
  • Simplified Shopping Features: If you use Instagram Shopping, you need to have your account linked to a Facebook Page to set up your Shop catalog via the Commerce Manager. This connection is the backbone of social commerce on Meta’s platforms.

The Pre-Flight Checklist: What You Need Before You Start

Before you get into the settings, a couple of quick checks will save you a lot of headaches. Most connection errors happen because one of these two requirements isn't met.

1. You Must Be an Admin on the Facebook Page

You can't link accounts if you just have an "Editor," "Moderator," or other role on the Facebook Page. You need full administrative privileges. To check your role:

  1. On Facebook, go to the Page you want to connect.
  2. Click on Manage near the top of your Page.
  3. In the menu on the left, find Page Access.
  4. You should see your profile picture listed under "People with Facebook access." Your permissions should appear underneath your name - make sure "Full control" is listed.

If you aren't an admin, you'll need to ask someone who is to either grant you admin access or handle the connection process themselves.

2. Your Instagram Account Must Be a Professional Account

You cannot link a personal Instagram profile to a Facebook Business Page. Your Instagram account must be set as either a Creator or Business account. Switching is free, only takes a second, and unlocks valuable features like professional dashboards and contact buttons.

How to Switch Your Instagram to a Professional Account:

  • Open the Instagram app and go to your Profile.
  • Tap the three horizontal lines (☰) in the top-right corner, then select Settings and privacy.
  • Scroll down and tap on Account type and tools.
  • Tap Switch to professional account and follow the prompts. You’ll choose a category that best describes what you do (e.g., Artist, Blogger, Digital Creator, Restaurant) and then select whether you are a "Creator" or "Business."

For most brands, local businesses, and retailers, the Business option is the right choice. For influencers, public figures, and content producers, Creator is a better fit. Once that's done, you're ready to link your accounts.

The Step-by-Step Guide to Linking Your Accounts

You can initiate the link from either Instagram or Facebook. Using Meta's Account Center is now the primary way to manage this, and it generally works best when started from the Instagram app.

Method 1: Connect from Your Instagram App (Recommended)

This is often the quickest and most straightforward way to establish the connection.

  1. Open the Instagram app and go to your Profile page.
  2. Tap the menu icon (☰) in the top-right corner and select Settings and privacy.
  3. Tap on Accounts Center (it should be the first option at the top).
  4. If you haven't connected accounts before, you'll see a prompt to Set up Accounts Center. Follow the on-screen steps. Instagram will automatically try to find your Facebook account if you're logged into it on your phone.
  5. Once your Facebook account is added, you need to make sure it's connected to your desired Facebook Page. In the Accounts Center, tap on Connected experiences >, Sharing across profiles.
  6. Choose your Instagram account. From here, you’ll see options under "Automatically share." Tap on an option like Your Instagram posts.
  7. Under "Share to," you should select your Facebook profile. If your professional Page is recognized as being owned by your personal profile, it will appear as an option to share to. This confirms the link is active. Simply toggle what you want to share automatically (posts, stories, Reels).

Method 2: Connect from Your Facebook Business Page (Desktop)

If you prefer working on your computer, you can also set up the link directly from your Facebook Page settings.

  1. Navigate to the Facebook Page you want to manage.
  2. From the left-hand menu on your Page, click Settings.
  3. In the next menu, click on Linked accounts.
  4. You'll see options for Instagram and WhatsApp. Click Connect account next to the Instagram icon.
  5. A pop-up window will appear asking you to confirm the connection. Click Connect.
  6. A window will then prompt you to log into your Instagram account. Enter your username and password and click Log In.
  7. Once logged in, Facebook will confirm the connection is complete. Your Instagram profile handle should now appear in the Linked Accounts section.

Now That You're Linked: How to Cross-Post Like a Pro

With your accounts successfully connected, the real fun begins. You can now effortlessly share your content from Instagram to Facebook.

Sharing New Instagram Posts and Reels to Facebook

When you're creating a new feed post or Reel in the Instagram app, you’ll reach the final screen where you write your caption and tag people. On this screen:

  • Scroll down to the Post to other social media or Share to Facebook section.
  • Here, you'll see a toggle next to your Facebook Page's name.
  • Tap the toggle so it turns blue. That's it! When you publish your post on Instagram, it will automatically be shared to your connected Facebook Page.

Sharing Your Instagram Stories to Facebook

You have two choices for sharing Stories: share them all automatically or choose which ones to share on a case-by-case basis.

To Automatically Share All Stories:

  1. Navigate back to your Accounts Center via your Instagram settings.
  2. Go to Connected experiences >, Sharing across profiles.
  3. Select your Instagram profile.
  4. Under "Automatically share," tap the toggle next to Your Instagram story.

To Manually Share a Single Story:

Go to the Instagram Story you've already posted. At the bottom of the screen, tap the Facebook logo. It will then give you an option to share it to your Facebook story. This option gives you more control if some of your Stories are more Instagram-specific.

A Quick Note on Customization: While automatic sharing is a huge timesaver, remember that Facebook and Instagram audiences can have different expectations. A caption packed with 30 hashtags might look great on Instagram but feel cluttered on Facebook. It's often worth posting natively to each platform or using a scheduling tool just so you can write a slightly different caption and hashtag set for each audience.

Troubleshooting: What to Do When Things Go Wrong

Sometimes, things just don't sync up correctly. Here are a few common issues and their solutions.

"It Won't Let Me Connect to My Facebook Page."

This is almost always an issue with permissions or account type. Double-check the pre-flight checklist:

  • Are you actually an Admin on the Facebook Page?
  • Is your Instagram account definitely switched to a Professional (Business or Creator) account?

If both of those are correct, try logging out of both Facebook and Instagram on your phone and then logging back in to reset the connection token.

"I've Connected the Wrong Facebook Page or Profile."

No problem. You can easily disconnect and start over.

  1. Head back to the Accounts Center on Instagram.
  2. At the very bottom of the Accounts Center, find Accounts.
  3. You'll see a list of profiles added. Tap Remove next to the Facebook profile or Page you want to disconnect, confirm your choice, and then you can link the correct one by following the guides above.

"My Published Posts Aren't Sharing to Facebook."

If you're creating a post and the "Share to Facebook" toggle is grayed out or not working, it usually means Meta needs you to re-confirm the connection.

  1. Go back to your Facebook Page on a desktop computer.
  2. Go to Settings >, Linked Accounts.
  3. You might see a notification that says "Review Account Connection." Click it and reconfirm your permissions. This often fixes sharing issues immediately.
