How to Give Full Control Access to a Facebook Page

Handing over the keys to your Facebook Page can feel like a big deal, and it is. Whether you’re bringing on a new marketing manager, partnering with an agency, or grooming a business partner to take the reins, granting the right level of access is essential for both collaboration and security. This article will walk you through exactly how to give someone full control of your Facebook Page, explaining what that permission level means and highlighting the two primary methods for getting it done: directly through your Page settings and via the more robust Meta Business Suite.

What "Full Control" Actually Means on a Facebook Page

Before you click that “confirm” button, it’s important to understand the power you’re about to hand over. In Facebook's ecosystem, "Full Control" is the highest level of access you can give. It's the equivalent of being a co-owner of the Page. There are no restrictions.

Someone with Full Control can do everything you can do, including:

  • Manage all settings and permissions: They can add or remove other people from the page, including other administrators who have Full Control (yes, they could even remove you).
  • Create, manage, and delete content: This includes posts, Stories, events, and any other content shared on the Page.
  • Manage community activity: They can respond to messages as the Page, remove and ban people who violate community standards, and handle all comments.
  • Run and manage ads: They have complete authority over creating, managing, and viewing results for ad campaigns connected to the Page.
  • View all Page Insights: They can see every piece of analytical data, from post-performance to audience demographics.
  • Handle commerce and monetization tools: If your page has a shop or uses monetization features, they have full access to manage it.
  • Manage linked accounts: They can link and unlink assets like an Instagram account or WhatsApp number.
  • Delete the Page: This is the most critical one. A person with Full Control has the ultimate power to permanently delete the Facebook Page itself.

Full Control vs. Task Access: What's the Difference?

To highlight the significance of Full Control, it helps to compare it to the more common "Task Access." This lower permission level is designed for specific team roles and is a much safer option for most of your collaborators. Task Access can be customized, allowing you to grant permission for just one or a few specific areas:

  • Content: Can create, manage, or delete posts, Stories, and other content.
  • Messages: Can send messages as the Page.
  • Community Activity: Can respond to comments, remove unwanted comments, and ban people.
  • Ads: Can create, manage, and delete ads.
  • Insights: Can view Page performance data.

You can mix and match these. For example, a content creator might only get "Content" access, while a community manager gets access to "Messages" and "Community Activity." Neither can change Page settings, add or remove others, or delete the Page. The bottom line: give Full Control sparingly and only to those you trust completely. For everyone else, Task Access is the way to go.

Step-by-Step: Adding an Admin with Full Control

Facebook offers two main pathways for granting administrator access. The first method is done directly through your Page's settings under the "New Pages Experience," and it’s perfect for simple setups. The second method, via Meta Business Suite, is the professional standard for anyone managing multiple assets or running a business.

Method 1: Granting Full Control Directly from Your Page

This is the most direct and simplest way to add someone new. It works best if you’re only managing one Page and the person you're adding is already your friend on Facebook. It's quick, intuitive, and gets the job done.

Follow these steps:

  1. Switch to your Page Profile: You must be interacting as your Page, not your personal profile. To do this, go to your Facebook Page and click on your profile picture in the top-right corner. From the menu, select "See all profiles" and choose the Page you want to manage. When the page reloads, you should see your Page's logo in the corner, confirming you're acting as the Page.
  2. Navigate to Your Page Settings: Once you're on your Page, click your profile icon in the top right again, and from the dropdown menu, select "Settings &, privacy," then click "Settings."
  3. Open the "New Pages Experience" Menu: On the left-hand settings menu, find and click on "New Pages Experience." This is the section where all modern Page management and access controls are located.
  4. Go to "Page Access": Within the New Pages Experience, you'll see a few options. Click on "Page Access." This screen will show you a list of everyone who currently has administrative or task-based access to your Page.
  5. Start the "Add New" Process: Look for the "People with Facebook access" section and click the "Add New" button next to it. A pop-up will appear with a brief explanation of what you're about to do. Click "Next."
  6. Search for the Person: In the search bar, type the name or email address of the person you want to invite. It's usually easiest to find them by name if you are already friends with them on Facebook. Select the correct person from the list that appears.
  7. This is the crucial step: After selecting the person, you'll see a review screen showing the different permissions. By default, it grants them basic Task Access. At the bottom of this list is a toggle switch labeled, "Allow this person to have full control." You must toggle this switch on. Facebook will wisely give you a warning reminding you that this includes the ability to remove anyone from the Page (including you) and to delete the Page itself.
  8. Give Access and Confirm with Your Password: Once you've activated the Full Control toggle, click the "Give Access" button. As a final security measure, Facebook will ask you to re-enter your personal profile password to confirm that you are authorized to make this change.

The person you invited will now receive a notification and an email with an invitation to manage the Page. Their access will not be active until they click "Review Invitation" and accept the role. The invitation is valid for 31 days.

Method 2: Granting Full Control via Meta Business Suite

If you're managing a business with multiple assets - like a Facebook Page, Instagram account, Ad Account, and Pixel - Meta Business Suite is the way to go. It’s a more powerful, professional tool designed to keep all your marketing efforts organized. Granting access here is the industry-standard practice, as it keeps permissions clear and separate from your personal profile.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to Meta Business Suite: Log in to your account at business.facebook.com. Make sure you've selected the correct Business Account from the dropdown in the top left if you manage more than one.
  2. Open Settings: Find the gear icon labeled "Settings" on the bottom-left navigation menu and click it. This will take you to the backend of your business settings.
  3. Go to "People": In the main settings menu on the left, under "Users," click on "People." This screen shows all the individuals who have access to your Business Account and its various assets.
  4. Add People: Click the blue "Add people" button at the top right of the screen. A new window will pop up.
  5. Enter Business Email Address: Instead of searching by name, the professional best practice here is to invite people using their work email address. Enter their email and click "Next." This avoids any confusion with personal Facebook profiles.
  6. Assign Business Account Access: The first screen asks what level of access they should have to the entire Business Account. This is different from Page access.
    • Basic access (Recommended): Allows them to work on assigned assets but not change business settings. This is the safest default.
    • Full control: Gives them admin control over the entire business infrastructure, including finance and business settings. Only use this for partners or top-level executives.
Select an option, then click "Next."
  7. Assign Asset Access (The Main Event): This next screen is where you assign roles for specific tools like your Page.
    • In the leftmost column, select "Pages."
    • In the middle column, check the box next to the specific Facebook Page you want them to manage.
    • In the rightmost column, a list of permissions will appear. Find the toggle switch at the bottom labeled "Full control – Manage Page." Activating this grants them complete administrative access.
You can also assign them access to your Instagram account, ad account, or other assets from this same screen.
  8. Send the Invitation: After setting the permissions, click "Invite." The person will receive an email invitation to join the Business Account. Just like with the direct method, they must accept this invitation before their access becomes active.

How to Revoke Full Control Access

Situations change. Agency contracts end, employees move on. Knowing how to remove access is just as important as knowing how to grant it.

To revoke access, follow the same initial steps as you did to add someone:

  • For Direct Page Access: Go to Settings > New Pages Experience > Page Access. Find the person's name, click the three-dot menu icon next to it, and select "Remove access." You will need to enter your password to confirm.
  • For Meta Business Suite: Go to Settings > People. Click on the person's name. In the panel that appears on the right, find the Facebook Page under "Assigned assets," click the "Manage" button, and toggle off the "Full control" access. Alternatively, you can remove them from the Business Account entirely by clicking the "Remove" button in the top right.

Removing access is instant. The moment you confirm, their connection to the Page is severed. Regular C-suite security audits of who has access to your social media Pages are highly recommended.

Final Thoughts

Giving out full control of your Facebook Page is a significant decision that centralizes power and streamlines management, but it demands careful consideration. Whether using the direct Page settings or the more comprehensive Meta Business Suite, the key is to understand exactly what you're delegating and to grant this level of access only to individuals or partners who have your complete trust.

Managing a social media team effectively goes beyond setting permissions, it requires having a central space where everyone can collaborate without friction. This is why we created Postbase.
