How to Get Full Access to a Facebook Page

Gaining full access to a Facebook Page can feel like a maze, especially with Meta constantly updating its interface. You may need to grant a team member admin rights, take over a client's page, or simply organize your permissions, but the path isn't always clear. This guide cuts through the confusion and provides a direct, step-by-step roadmap to getting and giving full control of a Facebook Page.

Understanding Facebook's New Page Roles: What "Full Access" Really Means

Before you start adding people, you need to understand the new permission structure Facebook calls the "New Pages Experience." In the past, you had roles like Admin, Editor, and Moderator. Today, it’s been simplified into two main types of access given through a personal Facebook profile.

Facebook Access with Full Control

This is the highest level of permission and is what most people think of as the "Admin" role. Someone with full control can do everything, including:

  • Granting "full control" or "task access" to other people.
  • Removing anyone from the Page, including other people with full control.
  • Changing all settings and viewing all Page insights.
  • Creating, managing, and deleting posts, Stories, and other content.
  • Sending messages and responding to comments.
  • Running ads and managing financial details like payment methods.
  • Deleting the Page permanently.

Warning: Only give full control to individuals you trust completely. Giving someone full control is like handing them the keys to your entire operation. They can remove you from your own Page, and getting it back can be a nightmare.

Facebook Access with Task Access

This is a more limited role, perfect for employees, contractors, or specific team members who don’t need the ability to manage the Page's structure. You can customize which tasks they can perform.

Depending on what you allow, people with task access can:

  • Create, manage, or delete content (posts, Stories, etc.).
  • Send messages and moderate comments.
  • Create and manage ads.
  • View insights to see how the Page is performing.

They cannot manage Page permissions or settings. They can't add or remove other people, and they certainly can't delete the Page. This is the safest option for most team members.

A Quick Note on Meta Business Suite (or Business Manager)

For agencies, freelancers, or businesses with multiple social media assets, managing permissions directly on the Page is not the best long-term strategy. The Meta Business Suite (formerly Business Manager) is a dashboard that allows you to manage all of your assets - Pages, Instagram accounts, ad accounts - in one place and grant permissions to partners or employees without sharing personal account details. Adding people through Business Suite is the professional standard for managing client accounts because it clearly separates business assets from personal profiles.

While this article focuses on granting access directly from the Page, for an agency or growing team, look into Business Suite. It is a more secure and scalable option.

How to Grant Someone Full Access to a Facebook Page (Step-by-Step)

Alright, let's get into the practical steps. Here’s how to give another person full admin control over your Facebook Page.

Important: You must already have "Full Control" of the Page to grant it to someone else.

Step 1: Go To Your Page's Dashboard

First, log into Facebook and switch from your personal profile to the Page profile you want to manage. You can do this by clicking your profile picture in the top-right corner and selecting "See all profiles," then choosing the correct Page.

Step 2: Access Your Page Settings

Once you are "acting as" your Page, click on your Page’s profile picture in the top-right again. From the dropdown menu, select Settings & Privacy, then click on Settings.

Step 3: Navigate to "Page Access"

In the new settings menu on the left side of your screen, find and click on New Pages Experience. This will open a new set of options. The one you want is Page Access.

Step 4: Add the New Person

You’ll see a screen that lists everyone who currently has access to the Page. To add someone new, click the Add New button next to the "People with Facebook access" heading.

A pop-up will appear explaining what Facebook access means. Read it, then click Next.

Step 5: Find the Person and Grant Full Control

Now, you need to find the person you want to add. You can search for them by their name or the email address they use for their Facebook account. The email search is usually more accurate if their name is common.

Once you've selected the correct person from the list, you’ll be taken to the "Review This Person's Access" screen. This is the most important step.

Here, you'll see a list of tasks this person can manage. By default, they will have task-based access. To give them admin rights, you must toggle the switch for "Allow this person to have full control."

Facebook will show you another warning to make sure you understand the gravity of this action. Read it carefully. Once you’re ready, click Give Access.

Step 6: Confirm and Send the Invitation

For security reasons, Facebook will ask you to enter your personal profile password to confirm that you’re authorizing this change. Enter your password and click Confirm.

That’s it! An invitation will be sent to the person. They will have 30 days to accept it before it expires.

How to Accept an Invitation for Full Access

If you're on the receiving end of an invitation, the process is straightforward. You won’t get access until you formally accept it.

  1. You'll receive a notification on Facebook telling you that "[Page Name] has invited you to manage their Page."
  2. Click the notification. You’ll be taken to a screen where you can review the permissions being granted to you.
  3. Take a moment to read what access you're getting. Once you’re ready, click the Review Invitation button, then Accept.
  4. Once you accept, you will instantly have the access granted to you. You can now switch to the Page's profile to start managing it.

Troubleshooting Common Issues with Page Access

Sometimes things don't go as planned. Here are some solutions to common problems you might encounter.

"I can't find the person I'm trying to add."

This is a frequent issue. Here’s what to check:

  • Spelling: Double-check that you've spelled their name exactly as it appears on their Facebook profile.
  • Use Email: Searching by the email address associated with their Facebook account is the most reliable method.
  • Friend Them: Temporarily becoming "friends" on Facebook often makes the person appear immediately in the search results.

"The 'full control' option is grayed out."

If you can’t toggle the "full control" switch, it means you don't have full control yourself. Only a user with full control can grant full control to others. Check your own permission level in the "Page Access" section to confirm.

"I'm the only admin, and I've lost access to my account!"

This is a scary situation and, unfortunately, very difficult to fix. This is why it’s a great idea to have at least two people with full control on any important business Page.

If you find yourself in this position, here are a few things to try:

  • Recover your personal Facebook account. Your access to the Page is tied to your account. Go through Facebook’s standard account recovery process first.
  • Check your Meta Business Suite. Is it possible the Page is part of a Business Portfolio (formerly Business Manager/Suite)? If another person is an admin on that business account, they may be able to grant you access again.
  • Contact Facebook Support. This is often a last resort and can be a long process. For a legitimate business page, you might be able to regain access by providing legal documentation (like business registration, utility bills, etc.) proving you own the business associated with the Page.

Final Thoughts

Giving someone full ownership of your Facebook Page is a simple process, but one that requires careful attention. All it takes is navigating to your "Page Access" settings, selecting the right person, and actively toggling the "full control" option. Keeping a close eye on who has access, and ensuring you always have a trusted second admin, will save you from major headaches down the road.
