How to Embed TikTok in Discord

Bringing your favorite TikToks directly into your Discord server helps create a shared language and culture for your community. Whether you're sharing hilarious memes, industry-specific tutorials, or your brand's latest video, embedding TikToks is a simple way to boost engagement. This guide will walk you through exactly how to embed TikTok videos in Discord, troubleshoot common problems, and use this feature to build a more active and connected community.

Why You Should Embed TikToks in Your Discord Server

Sharing a link is easy, but a proper embed does so much more. When a TikTok video displays directly within a Discord channel, it transforms a simple link into an interactive piece of content. This shift from a passive link to an active experience is a small detail that has a big impact on community engagement and culture.

Think about it: instead of members having to click a link, leave the app, watch the video, and then come back to comment, they can watch and react instantly. This keeps the conversation flowing entirely within your server, which is the whole point of building a community hub. The discussion happens in real-time within the channel's thread, making the content feel like a direct part of the community's dialogue rather than an outside reference.

Here are a few key benefits:

  • Boosts Engagement: Allowing members to watch videos without leaving the app significantly reduces friction. More people are likely to view the content and react with emojis or comments, leading to more lively conversations.
  • Builds Community Culture: The content you share defines your community's vibe. A dedicated channel filled with curated TikToks - be they niche-specific humor, educational clips, or trending sounds related to your server's theme - helps create inside jokes and a shorthand that makes members feel like they belong.
  • Sparks Conversations: Stuck on how to get people talking? A well-chosen TikTok can be the perfect icebreaker. Dropping a funny or thought-provoking video into a general chat often ignites debates, laughter, and shared experiences more effectively than a text-based prompt.
  • Showcases User-Generated Content (UGC): If you run a brand, creating a space to feature TikToks from your customers is a powerful way to build social proof. It celebrates your community members, encourages others to create content, and turns your Discord server into a gallery of authentic brand love.

How to Embed a TikTok in Discord: The Step-by-Step Guide

The good news is that Discord has excellent native support for TikTok embeds. You don't need any special bots or integrations to get started. As long as your server and user settings are configured correctly, the process is as simple as copying and pasting a link.

Here’s exactly how to do it:

  1. Find the TikTok You Want to Share
  2. Open the TikTok app on your phone or desktop and navigate to the video you want to embed. It can be one of your videos or a video from another creator.
  3. Copy the Video Link
  4. Tap the Share button (it looks like an arrow). In the share menu that pops up, find and tap the "Copy Link" option. The app will confirm that the link has been copied to your clipboard.
  5. Navigate to Your Discord Server
  6. Open Discord and go to the server and specific text channel where you want to share the video.
  7. Paste the Link and Send
  8. Simply paste the link into the message box and press Enter to send it. You don't need to add any special commands or formatting.
  9. Wait for the Embed to Appear
  10. Discord will take a moment to process the link. If everything works correctly, the URL will transform into a full-featured video embed. You'll see the TikTok video in a playable window, along with the creator's username, the video's caption, and information about the sound used.

That's it! Members in the channel can now watch the entire video, mute it, and view it in fullscreen, all without ever leaving Discord.

Troubleshooting: Why Isn’t My TikTok Link Embedding?

Sometimes, you'll paste a TikTok link and it remains just that - a plain, boring URL. When this happens, it's almost always a permissions issue, either at the server level or in your personal user settings. Here’s how to fix the most common problems.

Problem #1: Links Aren't Embedding for Anyone in the Channel

If embeds aren't working for anyone in a specific channel or server, it's likely a server-side permission that an admin or moderator needs to adjust. The permission responsible is called Embed Links.

How to Fix It (For Server Admins):

You need to check the role permissions for the members of that channel.

  1. Click on the server name in the top-left corner and go to Server Settings.
  2. Navigate to the Roles tab.
  3. Select the role that is having the issue (e.g., @everyone or another specific role).
  4. Go to the Permissions tab and scroll down to the "Text Channel Permissions" section.
  5. Make sure the permission for Embed Links is toggled on (it should be green).
  6. If the roles look correct, check for channel-specific overrides. Right-click on the specific channel, select Edit Channel, and go to the Permissions tab. Review the roles and ensure "Embed Links" is not explicitly denied (marked with a red X).

Once this permission is enabled, Discord should start generating embed previews for all links shared in the channel.

Problem #2: Embeds Are Working for Others, But Not for Me

If everyone else can see TikTok embeds but you just see a link, the problem is likely in your personal Discord user settings. You may have disabled link previews app-wide.

How to Fix It (For Individual Users):

  1. Click the gear icon in the bottom-left corner of Discord to open your User Settings.
  2. In the menu on the left, go to the Text &, Images tab.
  3. Scroll down to the "Display Images, Videos, and Lolcats" section.
  4. Make sure the setting "When posted as links to chat" is toggled on. If this option is off, Discord will not show a preview for any links, including TikToks.

After enabling this, go back to the channel, and previously posted links should now appear as embeds.

Problem #3: The Embed Appears, but the Video Is Unavailable

You might see the embed frame correctly, but the video player shows an error like "Video currently unavailable." This isn't a Discord issue but is usually related to the TikTok video itself.

  • The video was deleted or set to private. The creator may have removed the video or changed their account to private after you copied the link. If Discord can no longer access the video, the embed will break.
  • The video is region-locked. Some TikTok videos are restricted to certain countries due to music rights or other content policies. If the video isn't available in your region, the embed won't be able to play it.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a direct fix for this from within Discord. The best you can do is find a different video to share.

Creative Ways to Use TikToks in Your Discord Community

Now that you know how to embed videos, you can start using them strategically to make your server a more interesting place. Here are a few ideas to get you started.

1. Create a Dedicated #tiktok-share Channel

Give your community a place where they can freely share their favorite finds. A dedicated channel keeps these shares from cluttering up other discussions. You can even create themed channels, like #memes, #learning, or #gamingsetups, where members post TikToks relevant to those topics. This encourages active participation and helps users find like-minded people.

2. Run a Weekly or Monthly "TikTok Contest"

Boost engagement with a little friendly competition. Announce a theme for the week - for example, "Funniest Gaming Glitch" or "Cutest Pet Moment" - and ask members to post their favorite TikToks that fit. The community can vote for their favorites using a specific emoji reaction. You can offer a small prize, like a special role color or server bragging rights, to the member whose post gets the most votes.

3. Use TikToks as Conversation Prompts

The best communities are built on great conversations. Instead of just asking, "How is everyone doing?" use a compelling TikTok as a prompt. Find a video such as a funny skit, a clever life hack, or a hot take on a current event - and post it in your main chat with an open-ended question. For example: "Just saw this cooking hack... has anyone ever actually tried this?" This gives people something concrete to react to and share their own opinions on.

4. Curate a "Best Of" Resource Channel

If your community is focused on a specific skill or hobby - like programming, digital art, or marketing - you can use TikTok embeds to create a valuable resource hub. Create a locked channel where only mods can post links to helpful tutorials, tips, and tricks found on TikTok. In just a few weeks, you can build a browsable library of bite-sized educational content that your members will find extremely useful.

Final Thoughts

Sharing TikToks in Discord is more than just posting a link - it's about seamlessly integrating engaging, relevant, and timely video content directly into your community’s conversations. By following these simple steps and leveraging video to spark discussions, you can build a more vibrant and connected culture that keeps members coming back for more.

Of course, finding and sharing content reactively is only one piece of the puzzle. When my own team was struggling to plan a consistent content strategy across platforms like TikTok and Instagram, I grew frustrated with older social media tools that just weren't built for a video-first world. That’s why we built Postbase. My goal was to create a tool that handles scheduling short-form video effortlessly, with a clean visual calendar and rock-solid reliability, so you can focus more on engaging with your community in places like Discord instead of wrestling with your software.

Spencer's spent a decade building products at companies like Buffer, UserTesting, and Bump Health. He's spent years in the weeds of social media management—scheduling posts, analyzing performance, coordinating teams. At Postbase, he's building tools to automate the busywork so you can focus on creating great content.
