How to Embed on Facebook

Want to pull a video from YouTube, a post from Instagram, or a link from your blog directly into a Facebook post? You’re talking about embedding, and it’s a simple way to make your feed more dynamic and engaging. This guide will walk you through exactly how to embed different types of content on Facebook, share your Facebook posts on other websites, and make sure everything looks perfect when it shows up in the feed.

What Does "Embedding" Actually Mean on Facebook?

The term "embedding" can mean a couple of different things in the Facebook ecosystem, but it all comes down to making content from one place show up beautifully in another. It’s the difference between dropping a plain, unclickable link in a post and having a rich, playable video preview appear right in your feed.

There are two main scenarios you'll run into:

  • Embedding outside content onto Facebook: This is when you take a link from another source - like a YouTube video, a TikTok, or a blog post - and paste it into a new Facebook post. Facebook then generates a preview, often allowing users to watch the video or see a preview of the article without leaving the platform.
  • Embedding Facebook content onto a website: This involves taking a specific public post, video, or even your entire Page feed from Facebook and placing it directly onto your blog or website using a snippet of code. This is perfect for showcasing social proof or sharing your latest updates with your website visitors.

Mastering both will help you create a more connected and seamless online presence for your brand.

The Right Way to Embed a YouTube Video on Facebook

Sharing YouTube videos is one of the most common ways to embed content into a Facebook feed. When done right, Facebook creates a large, clickable thumbnail that plays the video directly in the News Feed, which helps keep users engaged on your post. The process is straightforward.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Find Your YouTube Video: Go to YouTube and open the video you want to share.
  2. Click the "Share" Button: Just below the video player, you’ll see a "Share" button. Click it.
  3. Copy the Link: A pop-up will appear with the shareable video link. Click the "COPY" button to copy it to your clipboard.
  4. Create a New Facebook Post: Head over to your Facebook page or profile and start a new post.
  5. Paste the Link: Simply paste the YouTube link into the post creation box. Wait a few seconds for Facebook to process it. An attractive, playable preview of the video will automatically load.
  6. Add Your Caption: Once the preview appears, you can actually delete the visible link from your text box to clean up the post. The video player will remain. Write a compelling caption that gives context, asks a question, or includes a call-to-action to spark a conversation.
  7. Post It: Click "Post," and your embedded video will appear in the feed, ready for your audience to watch.

That's it. It’s a simple copy-and-paste job, but adding a custom caption around it is what turns a simple share into an engaging piece of content.

How to Embed a Facebook Post on Your Website or Blog

Sometimes you’ve created a fantastic post on Facebook - maybe a great review, an important announcement, or a viral video - and you want to feature it on your website. Facebook makes this easy by providing a direct HTML embed code for any public post.

This works wonders for showing customer testimonials, press mentions, or relevant company news directly on your site.

Step-by-Step Guide:

  1. Navigate to the Specific Post: Find the Facebook post you want to embed. Make sure the post's privacy is set to "Public," otherwise the embed code won't be available or visible to others.
  2. Click the Three-Dot Menu: In the top-right corner of the post, you will see an icon with three horizontal dots (...). Click it.
  3. Select "Embed": A dropdown menu will appear. Click on the "Embed" option. On some videos, you might have to click "More options" first, and then "Embed."
  4. Copy the Code Snippet: A new window will pop up showing a preview of your embedded post and the code snippet. Click the "Copy Code" button.
  5. Paste the Code into Your Website: Now, go to your website’s content management system (CMS) like WordPress, Squarespace, or Shopify. Open the page or blog post where you want the Facebook post to appear. Switch to the HTML or "Code" view of your editor and paste the snippet where you want it.

When you publish your webpage, the Facebook post will appear exactly as it does on Facebook, complete with likes, comments, and shares - providing powerful, dynamic social proof.

Here’s an example of what the code might look like:

<,iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fyourusername%2Fposts%2F1234567890&,show_text=true&,width=500" width="500" height="700" style="border:none,overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay, clipboard-write, encrypted-media, picture-in-picture, web-share">,<,/iframe>,

Just save your changes, and you're good to go!

Sharing Posts from Instagram and TikTok Natively in Facebook

Sharing content from other video-heavy platforms like Instagram and TikTok is a smart way to keep your Facebook feed fresh and cross-promote your channels. The approach is slightly different for each.

Embedding an Instagram Post

Since Meta owns both platforms, sharing between Instagram and Facebook is deeply integrated. The best way to do this is to connect your accounts.

  • Connect Your Accounts: In your Instagram profile’s settings, go to "Account Center," then "Accounts &, Profiles." Add both your Instagram account and the desired Facebook Page.
  • Share While Posting: When creating a new post, Reel, or Story on Instagram, look for the "Share to Facebook" option on the final screen before you publish. Toggle it on, and your content will be posted simultaneously to your connected Facebook Page.
  • Share an Existing Post: For a post that’s already live on Instagram, tap the three-dot menu on the post and select "Post to Pages," then choose your Facebook Page. This creates a native-looking post on Facebook.

This method doesn't just share a link, it creates a genuine Facebook post from your Instagram content, often pulling in the caption and media seamlessly.

Embedding a TikTok Video

Sharing a TikTok video works much like sharing from YouTube. You’re grabbing a link and letting Facebook build the preview for you.

  1. Find the TikTok Video: Open the TikTok app and go to the video you want to share.
  2. Tap the "Share" Icon: This is typically represented by an arrow on the right side of the screen.
  3. Copy Link: In the share options, find and tap "Copy Link."
  4. Paste into Facebook: Open a new Facebook post, paste the TikTok link, and wait for the rich preview to load. Add your own commentary, and post it. The video will often be playable directly within Facebook, offering a user-friendly experience.

Bonus Tip: Making Your Website Links Look Perfect on Facebook

Have you ever shared a link to your blog, and the wrong image appeared, or the title came out weirdly? This common problem happens when your website isn't giving Facebook the right instructions on what to display. The fix is something called Open Graph (OG) tags.

An OG tag is a tiny piece of code in your website's header that tells social media platforms exactly which title, description, and image to use when someone shares that page. Getting this right is a form of embedding - you're preparing your content to be embedded correctly.

Here are the three most important OG tags:

  • og:title: The title of your article or page as you want it to appear on Facebook.
  • og:description: A one- to two-sentence summary of your content.
  • og:image: A link to the specific image you want to feature. This is the most important one for grabbing attention!

If you use a CMS like WordPress, plugins like Yoast SEO or Rank Math make it very easy to set these for each page without touching any code. If you’re ever having trouble, you can use Facebook’s official Sharing Debugger tool. Just paste your link in, and it will tell you exactly how Facebook is seeing your content and report any errors with your OG tags.

Embedding gives you the power to pull your digital world together, making your social media an interconnected hub rather than a set of disconnected islands. Whether you're bringing an engaging YouTube video into your Facebook feed or showcasing a fantastic Facebook review on your company blog, these steps make it easy to create a richer experience for your viewers.
