How to Create Moments on Twitter

While a single tweet can spark a conversation, a curated collection of them can tell a complete story. Twitter's Moments feature allows you to stitch together tweets - yours and others' - into a compelling, shareable narrative that goes beyond the character limit. This guide breaks down exactly how to create Twitter Moments, from the basic steps to strategic tips that will help your stories stand out and resonate with your audience.

What Are Twitter Moments and Why Should You Use Them?

Think of a Twitter Moment as a visual story or a digital scrapbook. It's an organized collection of tweets presented in a clean, slideshow-like format. You can include your own tweets, tweets you’ve liked, tweets from other public accounts, plus all the media that comes with them - images, videos, and GIFs. Once published, your Moment gets its own dedicated URL, making it easy to share on and off the platform.

But why go through the effort? Moments offer powerful benefits for brands, creators, and marketers:

  • Long-Form Storytelling: Sometimes, 280 characters (or even a thread) just isn’t enough. Moments let you build a narrative with a beginning, middle, and end, weaving multiple perspectives into a single, cohesive story.
  • Powerful Event Coverage: Hosting a conference, running a webinar, or live-tweeting an industry event? A Moment is the perfect way to bundle all the highlights, key takeaways, and audience reactions into one convenient recap.
  • Evergreen Content Hubs: Compile your best-performing tweets on a specific topic into an evergreen resource. You can create a "greatest hits" collection, a FAQ, or a guide that you can share with new followers for months to come.
  • Showcasing Community and Social Proof: Gather positive feedback, customer testimonials, or user-generated content (UGC) into a single Moment. It’s an authentic way to show social proof and celebrate your community.
  • Repurposing Content: Give your best content a second life. A Moment can summarize a blog post, visualize a case study, or offer a behind-the-scenes look at a project.

Your Step-by-Step Guide to Creating a Twitter Moment

Ready to build your first Moment? The process is straightforward, but it’s currently only available on the desktop version of X (formerly Twitter). Grab your laptop and follow along.

Step 1: Accessing the Moments Creator

Getting to the Moments dashboard is the first step. It's tucked away under the "More" menu on the left-hand navigation panel of the X website.

  1. Log into your X/Twitter account on a web browser.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click on More (the icon with three dots in a circle).
  3. From the pop-up menu, select Moments. This will take you to your personal Moments dashboard, where you can see Moments you've already created or start a new one.

Step 2: Starting Your New Moment

Once you're on the Moments screen, you'll see a prominent button to get started.

  • In the top right corner of the page, click the Create new Moment button (it has a lightning bolt icon).
  • You are now in the Moment composer. This is your main canvas, where you'll add a title, description, cover, and the tweets themselves.

Step 3: Crafting the Perfect Title and Description

Your title and description are what people see first, so make them count. Think of them like a headline and sub-headline for a blog post.

  • Title: Keep it short, descriptive, and engaging. It should accurately reflect what the Moment is about. For example, "Highlights from the 2024 Design Summit" is much better than "Event Tweets."
  • Description: Here, you can add a bit more context. Explain what the story covers, who it's for, or what readers will learn. This is also a good place to include relevant keywords to help your Moment be discovered in searches.

Step 4: Choosing a Captivating Cover Image or Video

The cover is the visual representation of your Moment. You can either select media from one of the tweets you choose or upload a unique image or video just for the cover.

  • Click on the Set cover area.
  • You'll have the option to pick an image/video from the tweets you're about to add or to click the camera icon to upload a new file from your computer.
  • For the best results, use a high-quality, vibrant image that is visually appealing. Vertical formats work especially well, as they fill more screen space on mobile devices.
  • After selecting your cover, you can use the cropping tool to select the exact portion you want to display for different devices.

Step 5: Adding Tweets to Your Moment

This is where the magic happens. On the lower half of the page, labeled "Add Tweets to your Moment," you have a few powerful ways to find and curate your content.

You can choose from four sources:

  1. Tweets I’ve liked: This is arguably the easiest way to work. As you see tweets you want to include in a future Moment, simply "like" them. They’ll all be collected here, ready for you to pick from.
  2. Tweets by account: Find all the recent tweets from any public account, including your own. Just type in the handle (e.g., @yourbrand).
  3. Tweet search: A powerful tool for finding tweets around a specific topic. You can search by keywords, hashtags, or phrases. This is perfect for collecting community conversations or industry news.
  4. Collection: If you have the direct link to a specific tweet, you can paste it here to add it immediately.

To add a tweet, simply click the gray checkmark icon next to it. It will turn blue and the tweet will automatically appear in your Moment preview panel on the right.

Step 6: Arranging and Organizing Your Story

Once you’ve added your desired tweets, they'll appear in the main composer window. This is your chance to turn a random collection of posts into a flowing narrative.

  • To reorder tweets, simply click and hold a tweet and drag it up or down to its new position.
  • Think about the flow. Do you want it to be chronological? Or does it make more sense thematically? For event coverage, chronological order is often best. For a guide or showcase, a thematic approach might work better.
  • To remove a tweet, just click the blue "X" button on the right side of that tweet in the composer list.

Step 7: Publishing and Sharing Your Moment

Happy with your story? It’s time to send it out into the world. In the top right corner, you'll find the "Publish" button.

  • Click Publish. A pop-up will appear.
  • You can set the Moment's visibility. "Public" means anyone can find it, while "Unlisted" means only people with the direct link can see it.
  • You'll get a final look at the title, description, and cover, with an option to add location details.
  • When you confirm, you’ll receive the shareable link for your Moment. You'll also be prompted to compose a new tweet to share it with your followers immediately, which is highly recommended!

Strategies for Creating Unforgettable Twitter Moments

Knowing how to create a Moment is one thing, creating one that people actually want to click through is another. Here are some strategies to elevate your curation game.

1. Start with the End in Mind

Don't just collect tweets at random. Before you even open the Moment creator, decide on the story you want to tell. What is the key takeaway for the reader? Having a clear theme or narrative arc - a beginning, middle, and end - will make your Moment feel purposeful and hold the viewer's attention.

2. Mix Up Your Media Formats

A Moment filled only with text tweets is a missed opportunity. Make your story dynamic by curating a mix of media. Include high-quality photos, short video clips, informative infographics, and fun GIFs. Varied media keeps viewers engaged and helps them visualize the story you're telling.

3. Combine Your Voice with the Community's

While showing off your own great content is useful, the true power of Moments lies in curation. Weave your own tweets together with posts from customers, industry leaders, event attendees, or partners. This creates a richer, more authentic story that positions you as a connector and a central voice in your community, not just a broadcaster.

4. Build Moments for Different Goals

Think beyond just one type of Moment. Diversify your approach by creating collections tailored to specific business goals:

  • Event Recaps: Gather tweets using an event hashtag to summarize key announcements and audience buzz.
  • UGC Showcases: Compile tweets from happy customers sharing photos or videos with your product. It’s powerful, authentic social proof.
  • Behind-the-Scenes Stories: Show the process behind a product launch, a company event, or a normal day at the office.
  • Tutorials and Guides: String together a series of informative tweets that teach your audience how to do something valuable.

5. Optimize for the Mobile Experience

The vast majority of users will view your Moment on their phone. Keep this in mind during creation. Use a striking, vertical cover image. Lead with your most visually compelling tweets to hook viewers immediately. Keep your text descriptions and titles concise so they don't get cut off on smaller screens.

Final Thoughts

Twitter Moments are a seriously underutilized tool for telling deeper, more engaging stories on the platform. By curating your best content - and the voices of your community - you can create shareable assets that educate, entertain, and build brand affinity far more effectively than a standalone tweet ever could.
