How to Copy a LinkedIn URL

Ever been in the middle of a job application or an email introduction and realized you can't quickly find your LinkedIn URL? You're not alone. Grabbing a direct link to a LinkedIn profile, company page, or post is a basic, necessary task, but the steps aren't always obvious. This guide breaks down exactly how to copy any LinkedIn URL you need, whether you're on a desktop computer or your phone.

Why Your LinkedIn URL Is Your Digital Handshake

Before jumping into the how-to, it's worth remembering why this little link is so important. A clean, direct link to your LinkedIn profile is a core piece of your professional identity. It's more than just a URL, it's a quick way for people to access your career story, your skills, and your network. Sharing it is like handing someone your digital business card.

You'll find yourself needing it for all sorts of reasons, including:

  • Resumes &, Job Applications: Nearly every online job application has a field for your LinkedIn profile. On a resume, it gives recruiters immediate access to a deeper dive into your experience.
  • Email Signatures: Adding your LinkedIn profile link to your email signature is a subtle way to network with everyone you communicate with.
  • Networking &, Introductions: When you're introducing two people or seeking an introduction, sharing profile links is standard practice.
  • Personal Websites &, Portfolios: Listing your LinkedIn profile on your personal site helps centralize your professional presence.

How to Find And Copy Your Own LinkedIn Profile URL

Let's start with the one you'll use most often: your own profile URL. The process is slightly different depending on whether you're using a computer or the mobile app.

On a Desktop Browser (The Easiest Way)

Accessing your URL on a desktop is the most direct method. There's no digging through menus required.

  1. Navigate to the LinkedIn website and sign in.
  2. In the top right corner, click on your profile picture labeled "Me." From the dropdown menu, select "View Profile."
  3. Once your profile page loads, look at the address bar at the very top of your browser window. The URL displayed there is your direct profile link.
  4. Click inside the address bar. The full URL will automatically highlight. Simply right-click and select "Copy" or use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+C on Windows or Cmd+C on a Mac).

That's it. You've successfully copied your profile URL and can now paste it wherever you need it.

On the LinkedIn Mobile App (iOS &, Android)

Finding your URL on the mobile app requires a few more taps, as there's no address bar visible on your profile.

  1. Open the LinkedIn app and tap your profile picture in the top left corner.
  2. Tap "View Profile."
  3. On your profile page, find the three-dot icon (... More) next to the "Add section" button. Tap it.
  4. A menu will slide up from the bottom. Tap "Share via..." This will open your phone's native share options.
  5. Look for an option that says "Copy" or "Copy Link." Tap it, and the URL will be saved to your phone's clipboard. Different phones might organize this menu differently, but the "Copy" option is almost always present.

Pro Tip: Customize Your URL for a Professional Edge

By default, LinkedIn assigns your profile a URL with your name followed by a string of random numbers and letters. It looks something like: www.linkedin.com/in/john-doe-a1b2c3d4.

This is functional but not very clean or memorable. A much better option is to create a custom "vanity URL" that's clean and professional, such as www.linkedin.com/in/johndoe or www.linkedin.com/in/johndoemarketing. This is easier to share, looks better on a resume, and reinforces your personal brand.

You can only do this from a desktop browser:

  1. Go to your LinkedIn profile page.
  2. On the top right of your profile, click the link that says "Edit public profile &, URL."
  3. On the editing page, under the "Edit your custom URL" section on the right, click the small pencil icon.
  4. Type your desired custom URL ending. Your custom part must be between 3-100 characters and contain no special characters or spaces.
  5. Click "Save." If your chosen URL isn't available, LinkedIn will prompt you to try another one.

How to Copy Someone Else's LinkedIn Profile URL

Need to share a contact's profile or send it to a colleague? Copying someone else's URL is just as easy as grabbing your own.

On a Desktop Browser

Simply navigate to the person's profile. Once the page is loaded, the unique URL for their profile will be displayed in your browser's address bar at the top of the screen. Click on it, copy it, and you're good to go.

On the LinkedIn Mobile App

  1. Navigate to the profile of the person whose URL you want to copy.
  2. Just below their name and headline, tap the three-dot icon (... More) next to the "Add section" button. Tap it.
  3. From the bottom menu that appears, tap "Share via..."
  4. Tap the "Copy" option in your phone's share menu.

How to Copy a LinkedIn Company Page URL

Whether you're sharing your current company's page, a potential employer, or a business partner, the process is very similar to copying a personal profile URL.

On a Desktop Browser

Search for the company on LinkedIn and click to navigate to their official page. Just like with a personal profile, the link you need is waiting for you in the browser's address bar. The format will typically look like www.linkedin.com/company/company-name.

On the LinkedIn Mobile App

This follows the same pattern as grabbing a profile URL on mobile.

  1. Search for and go to the company page.
  2. Tap the three-dot icon (... More), which is usually located at the top of the company page, next to the follow button.
  3. From the popup menu, tap "Share Page."
  4. Tap "Copy" to save the link to your clipboard.

How to Copy the URL of a Specific LinkedIn Post

Sometimes you don't want to share a whole profile, but rather an insightful article, a great video, or an important company announcement. Sharing a direct link to a post ensures people land exactly where you want them to.

On a Desktop Browser

This method is quick and works for any post in your feed.

  1. Find the post you want to share.
  2. Click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of the post itself.
  3. From the dropdown menu, select "Copy link to post." A small confirmation will appear indicating the link has been copied to your clipboard.

On the LinkedIn Mobile App

The steps are nearly identical when using the app.

  1. Scroll to the post you want to grab the link for.
  2. Tap the three-dot icon in the top-right corner of that post.
  3. From the options at the bottom, tap "Copy link." The link is now ready to be pasted.

What to Do If Your Copied Link Isn't Working

Mostly, copying and pasting a URL is a foolproof process. But occasionally, you or the person you send the link to might run into issues. Here are a couple of common reasons why.

The Profile is Private or Beyond Their Network

LinkedIn users have control over who can see their full profile. If you send a link to someone who isn't connected to that person (and the person has high privacy settings), they might only be able to see a limited version of the profile or, in some cases, a page that says the profile is unavailable. The link isn't broken, it's just respecting the user's privacy settings. There's not much you can do here, other than suggesting the two people connect directly if appropriate.

You've Copied the Wrong Link

It's easy to accidentally copy the URL of your LinkedIn home feed (which looks something like linkedin.com/feed/) instead of a specific profile. Always double-check that the URL format makes sense before sending it.

  • Personal Profile URL: linkedin.com/in/[custom-url]
  • Company Page URL: linkedin.com/company/[company-name]
  • Post URL: Contains a long string of numbers, often starting with linkedin.com/posts/...
