How to Add a Link on TikTok

Adding a link to your TikTok profile is one of the best ways to turn your views into website visits, sales, or subscribers, but getting it done isn't always obvious. Whether you're a creator looking to grow your email list or a brand driving customers to a new product, a clickable link is your direct pipeline off the app. This guide will walk you through exactly how to add a live website link to your bio, what to do if you don't yet have the feature, and some creative ways to drive traffic from your videos.

Why You Can't Just Add a Link Anywhere

Unlike other platforms where linking is pretty straightforward, TikTok has a few rules. The most important one is that the ability to add a clickable website link directly in your profile bio is not available to everyone right away. This is by design. TikTok wants to keep users engaged on the platform and also wants to incentivize creators to build a genuine following before they start directing traffic elsewhere.

Generally, there are two primary ways to unlock this feature:

  • Reaching 1,000 followers on a Personal Account. For most regular users, this is the magic number. Once you hit that milestone, the "Website" field typically appears in your profile settings.
  • Switching to a Business Account. This is the shortcut. Business Accounts can usually add a clickable bio link from day one, regardless of follower count. This is the go-to method for brands, marketers, and creators who are serious about using TikTok for business purposes.

Understanding this distinction is the first step. If you're building an audience for fun, focus on hitting that 1,000-follower mark. If your goal is to drive traffic and build your brand, converting to a Business Account is your best bet.

How to Add a Clickable Website Link to Your TikTok Bio

If you've met the requirements, adding your website is simple. The process boils down to either having enough followers or switching your account type, then pasting the link into the designated spot.

Step 1: Switch to a Business Account (or Hit 1,000 Followers)

For most brands and serious creators, switching to a Business Account is the most direct path to getting that clickable link. It’s free, takes less than a minute, and gives you access to other useful tools like analytics and a commercial music library. If you're still growing your following, this is how you unlock the feature instantly.

Here’s how to switch to a Business Account:

  1. Go to your TikTok profile and tap the three horizontal lines (the "hamburger" menu) in the top-right corner.
  2. Tap on Settings and privacy.
  3. Select Account.
  4. Tap Switch to Business Account and follow the on-screen prompts to choose a category that best describes your content or brand.

A quick note on the switch: Business Accounts get access to the Commercial Music Library, which has over a million royalty-free sounds you can use for marketing. However, you do lose access to some of the trending pop songs you might see on your For You Page due to licensing restrictions. For most businesses, this is a non-issue, but it's something for creators to keep in mind.

Step 2: Add Your Link

Once you’ve either switched to a Business Account or crossed the 1,000-follower threshold on a personal one, the "Website" field will appear in your profile editor. Now you just need to add your link.

Follow these quick steps:

  1. Go to your profile page and tap the Edit profile button.
  2. Look for the Website field, which will be just below your Bio section.
  3. Tap on Add your website.
  4. Paste your full URL (including https://) into the field.
  5. Tap Save.

That's it! A clickable link will now appear on your profile, right below your bio description, ready to send your followers wherever you want them to go.

Pro Tip: Using a "Link in Bio" Tool

You only get one clickable link on TikTok, so make it count. Instead of sending users to just one destination, like your homepage, use a "link in bio" tool to create a mobile-friendly landing page that houses all of your important links. This turns that single spot into a versatile hub for your online presence.

Popular tools like Linktree, Beacons, or Later's Link in Bio make this easy. You can also build a simple page on your own website. Good things to include on your link page are:

  • Your latest blog post or YouTube video.
  • Links to your top-selling products.
  • A sign-up form for your newsletter.
  • Links to your other social media profiles.
  • Your affiliate links or discount codes.

This approach gives visitors options and directs them to the content most relevant to them, dramatically increasing the value of your bio link.

What If I Don't Have 1,000 Followers? Working Around the Limitation

So you've just started out and don't meet the requirements for a clickable link? Don't worry. You can still drive traffic. You just have to be a little more creative while you work on growing your follower count.

Putting a Non-Clickable Link in Your Bio Description

Even without the dedicated "Website" field, you can still type out a URL in your main bio. It won't be a hyperlink, so users can't tap on it directly. They will have to manually copy and paste it into their browser.

Because this requires more effort from the user, you need to make it as easy as possible for them. Use a URL that is:

  • Short and Simple: No one is going to type `www.yourbrand.com/products/category-1a/long-product-name-with-numbers`.
  • Memorable: Use a vanity URL like `yourbrand.com/tiktok` or `shopdave.co`. Branded short link services like Bitly or Rebrandly can create clean, easy-to-remember links.

To add a non-clickable link, just go to Edit profile, tap on your Bio, and type the URL in. Combine it with a clear call-to-action like, "Shop my looks at the link below!"

Beyond the Bio: Creative Ways to Share Links on TikTok

Your bio isn't the only place to point people toward your website. Your video content is your most powerful tool for creating interest and encouraging people to go looking for your link.

1. Use Your Video Captions and Comments

Your caption should always support your video's message. Use it to directly tell people what to do. A simple "Get the full recipe at the link in my bio!" can work wonders. After you post, you can also drop a comment reminding people about the link and then pin that comment to the top so it's the first thing viewers see.

2. Use On-Screen Text and Verbal Call-to-Actions

Don't assume everyone will read your caption. The most effective way to drive action is to put the call directly in the video itself. Use TikTok's text overlay feature to display `your.url` on the screen at a key moment. Better yet, say it out loud! Speaking directly to your audience - "If you want to grab one of these for yourself, head to the link in my bio" - creates a much stronger connection and is harder to ignore.

3. Leverage Q&A Stickers and Comments

The TikTok Q&A feature lets followers ask you questions, which you can then answer in a new video. Look for questions that naturally lead to a link. If someone asks, "Where is your hoodie from?" create a video reply showing it off and telling them, "Thanks for asking! You can grab this one for yourself at the link in my bio." It feels less like a sales pitch and more like a helpful answer.

4. Connect Your Other Social Profiles

TikTok lets you link your Instagram and YouTube accounts directly in your profile. These appear as small, clickable icons. If you don't yet have the website link feature but you have a "link in bio" setup on Instagram, this creates a two-step path for followers to find your links. It's an easy way to connect your audiences across platforms.

To add them, head to Edit profile >, Social and connect your Instagram and/or YouTube account.

5. Use TikTok Stories to Share Links (Limited Access)

TikTok has been gradually rolling out clickable link "stickers" for TikTok Stories, similar to the feature on Instagram. This allows you to add a direct link inside an individual Story. The feature is not yet available to all users, but it's worth checking to see if your account has it. If it does, it can be a powerful way to promote timely content, flash sales, or new blog posts without changing your main bio link.

Final Thoughts

Driving traffic from TikTok comes down to a clear strategy. Your starting point is adding a clickable link to your bio by either switching to a Business Account or building your following. From there, your success depends on consistently using your video content - through captions, on-screen text, and verbal cues - to remind your audience why they should click that link.
