How to Share a Facebook Group Link

Growing a vibrant Facebook Group starts with getting the right people through the door, and the simplest way to do that is by sharing a direct link. Whether you're on your phone or computer, finding and sharing your group's unique URL is a straightforward process that unlocks countless promotional opportunities. This guide covers everything from finding your link on any device to creative strategies for sharing it effectively, and tips for making your URL more memorable and professional.

First Things First: How to Find Your Facebook Group Link

Before you can share your group, you need to know where to find its unique link. The process is slightly different depending on whether you're using a desktop computer or the mobile app, but both are very simple.

On a Desktop Computer

There are two primary ways to grab your group's link from your web browser:

Method 1: The Address Bar (The Obvious Way)

This is the fastest method if you're already on your group's page.

  • Navigate to your Facebook Group's main page.
  • Look at the URL in your browser's address bar at the very top of the screen.
  • That complete URL is your group's link. It will look like either https://www.facebook.com/groups/1234567890/ (a default numeric URL) or something customized like https://www.facebook.com/groups/yourcustomgroupname/.
  • Click on the address bar to highlight the URL, then right-click and select "Copy" (or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+C on Windows or Cmd+C on Mac).

You can now paste this link wherever you need it.

Method 2: Using the "Share" Button

Facebook also provides a built-in "Share" button with a few more options, including a handy "Copy Link" feature.

  • On your group's main page, locate the "Share" button. It's usually found near the top right, often represented by a curved arrow icon below the group's cover photo.
• A dropdown menu will appear with several sharing options. Look for "Copy link".
  • Clicking this will automatically copy the group's URL to your clipboard, ready for you to paste.

On the Facebook Mobile App (iOS and Android)

Sharing from your phone is just as easy and is perfect for when you're on the go.

  • Open the Facebook app and navigate to your group.
  • On the group’s main page, look for the share icon. On both iOS and Android, this is typically a shield icon with a star in it in the upper-right corner of the screen, right next to the search (magnifying glass) icon. Some versions of the app may show three dots (...) instead.
  • Tap the share icon (or the three dots). A menu will pop up from the bottom of the screen.
  • In this menu, you will see an option labeled "Copy link". Tap it.
  • The link to your Facebook Group is now copied to your device's clipboard. You can paste it into a text message, email, or another social media app.

Creative and Effective Ways to Share Your Facebook Group Link

Now that you know how to find your link, let's move on to the fun part: sharing it. Dropping the link randomly won't get you far. A strategic approach will help you attract quality members who are genuinely interested in your community. Here are some of the most effective methods.

1. Invite Directly and Share Within Facebook

Your existing Facebook audience is the most immediate source of new members.

  • Your Facebook Business Page Post: Create a compelling post on your Facebook Page that highlights the benefits of joining your group. What will members gain access to? Exclusive content, support, early announcements? Explain the value and then paste your group link directly into the post. You can also pin this post to the top of your Page for maximum visibility.
  • Your Facebook Page "Call to Action" Button: Your Facebook Page has a prominent "Call to Action" (CTA) button right below its cover photo. You can configure this button to direct people to your group. Simply edit the button and choose the "Join Group" or "Visit Group" option, then link it to your community.
  • Facebook Stories: Create a behind-the-scenes Story talking about your community. Add a poll or a question sticker to boost engagement, then use the "Link" sticker to add your group's URL. This makes it incredibly easy for viewers to tap and join directly from your Story.
  • Facebook Reels: If you are creating video content, mention your exclusive group in your Reel and tell viewers the link is in your profile bio or that you’ll drop it in the comments. This is a powerful way to convert video viewers into community members.
  • Messenger: Have a conversation with someone who would be a perfect fit for your community? Send them a personalized message on Messenger that includes the group link. A direct, personal invitation is often more effective than a public broadcast.

2. Promote on Your Other Social Media Channels

Don't limit your promotion to just Facebook. Leverage your entire online presence.

  • Instagram Bio: Your Instagram bio is prime real estate. Use a tool like Linktree or Beacons, or simply paste the Facebook Group link directly into your profile's website field. Regularly remind your followers in posts and Stories to "check the link in bio" to join your community.
  • LinkedIn Profile or Posts: If your group is professional, share the link in relevant LinkedIn posts. You can also add it to the "Featured" section of your LinkedIn profile to give it a permanent spot.
  • Tweets and X Threads: Announce your group on X (formerly Twitter). You can pin a tweet containing your group link to the top of your profile. For a powerful strategy, write an insightful thread and use "Join my free Facebook Group for more discussions like this" as your final call to action.
  • YouTube Channel: Mention your Facebook Group in your videos and add the link to your video descriptions. It's an excellent way to direct your video audience to a place where they can connect more deeply with you and other fans.

3. Use Email Marketing

Your email list is a goldmine of potential group members who already know, like, and trust you.

  • Newsletter Shoutout: Dedicate a section of your regular newsletter to highlighting your Facebook Group. Explain what’s happening inside and include a clear, clickable button with the link.
  • Welcome Email Series: When someone new subscribes to your email list, include an invitation to join your Facebook Group in the automated welcome series. It’s an ideal way to immediately deepen the relationship.
  • Email Signature: Add a permanent link to your group in your email signature. It's a simple, set-it-and-forget-it way to promote your community with every email you send.

4. Leverage Your Website or Blog

Drive traffic from your digital home base directly to your community hub.

  • In-Content Links: When you write a blog post on a topic related to your group, naturally hyperlink relevant keywords or phrases to the group's URL. For example, "...for more expert tips, join our exclusive community of marketers."
  • Website Pop-ups or Banners: Use a polite exit-intent pop-up or a persistent banner at the top of your website to invite visitors to join your group before they leave.
  • Dedicated "Community" Page: Create a specific Community or "Join Us" page on your website that outlines the benefits of membership and features a prominent button linking to the Facebook Group.

5. Go Offline with a QR Code

Facebook makes this incredibly easy. A QR code lets people join your group instantly just by scanning it with their phone's camera.

  1. Navigate to your group and click the "Share" button.
  2. Select the "QR Code" option.
  3. You can customize the color of the QR code to match your branding, and then click "Download" to save it as an image.

You can then add this QR code to business cards, flyers at an event, presentation slides, or even on packaging for a physical product.

Pro Tip: Customize Your Group's URL Address

A default Facebook Group URL looks something like facebook.com/groups/9876543210987/. It's long, forgettable, and doesn't exactly scream professionalism.

Luckily, if you're an Admin, you can create a custom URL (also called a "vanity" URL) that's clean, memorable, and aligned with your brand, like facebook.com/groups/thesocialbutterflies.

A custom URL is easier to say out loud, looks much cleaner on marketing materials, and reinforces your brand identity.

How to Create a Custom URL (Admin Only):

  1. On your group's main page, go to the "Group settings" tab in the left-hand menu.
  2. Look for the section titled "Customize Group".
  3. Next to "Web Address," click the pencil icon to edit it.
  4. Type in your desired custom name. Facebook will check if it's available. Keep it short, relevant, and easy to remember.
  5. Once you find an available name you like, click "Save."

This simple change immediately elevates how your group is perceived and makes sharing the link that much easier.

Understanding Group Privacy and Its Impact on Sharing

Your group’s privacy setting directly impacts what people see when they click your link. It's important to understand the difference:

  • Public Groups: Anyone can find the group, see a members list, and view all its posts without joining. When you share the link, a non-member sees everything. This option is best for maximum reach and transparency.
  • Private Groups: This is the most common setting for communities.
    • Visible: Anyone can find the group in a Facebook search, but only members can see who is in the group and what content is posted. When a non-member clicks your link, they see the cover photo, group name, and description, with a button to "Join Group." They can't access any of the content until they're approved. This strikes a balance between discoverability and privacy.
    • Hidden: Only current members can find the group. It won't appear in search results for non-members. You must be invited directly or have the link to find it. This setting is ideal for exclusive, top-secret, or highly sensitive communities.
