Collaborating on Facebook ads requires sharing access to key assets, and none are more important than your Meta Pixel. Sharing it correctly lets your agency, partner, or team member track conversions and optimize campaigns without you having to hand over the keys to your entire Business Manager. This guide will walk you through exactly how to share your Facebook Pixel, step-by-step, for different situations.
You can't just send someone your Pixel ID and call it a day. To properly use your pixel for ad targeting and conversion tracking, other businesses or people need formal access granted through Meta Business Suite (formerly Facebook Business Manager). Sharing is the standard, secure way to collaborate.
Here are the most common reasons you'll need to do this:
Ultimately, sharing your pixel isn't about giving away control, it's about enabling effective collaboration. It’s the professional way to manage partnerships and delegate tasks securely.
Before you get into the settings, it's helpful to know that Meta gives you two distinct options for sharing, each designed for a different purpose. Choosing the right one prevents confusion and future headaches.
1. Assigning a Partner (For Agencies, Freelancers, or Other Businesses): This is the most common method for external collaboration. When you "assign a partner," you are granting another entire Meta Business Manager access to your pixel. Think of it as a business-to-business connection. The agency or partner will accept your request, and the pixel will appear in their list of data sources, ready for them to assign to their ad accounts and team members on their end. They don't own your pixel, they just have permission to use it.
2. Adding People (For Your Internal Team): This method is for granting pixel access to individuals who are already part of your Meta Business Manager. If you just hired a new social media manager and have added them to your Business Manager, you use this option to give that specific person permission to view or manage the pixel. It keeps permissions tidy within your own team.
Knowing this distinction is the first step to getting it right. Most of the time, if you're working with an outsider, you'll be using the "Assign a Partner" route.
Preparing a few things upfront will make the process go much faster. Make sure you have the following ready:
Ready to give your marketing partner access? Following these steps carefully will get it done in just a few minutes.
Navigate to business.facebook.com/settings. If you manage multiple business accounts, make certain that you've selected the correct one from the dropdown menu at the top left.
In the navigation menu on the left side of the screen, look for the Data Sources section. Click it to expand the menu, and then select Pixels.
You’ll see a list of the pixels associated with your business account. Click on the one you want to share. It'll become highlighted, and you'll see details about it appear on the right side of the page.
With your pixel selected, you’ll see several options like 'Add People,' 'Assign Partners,' and 'Connected Assets.' Click the blue button that says Assign Partners.
A pop-up window will appear asking for the partner’s Business ID. This is where you paste the long number your agency or partner provided you. Once entered, click 'Next.'
This is where you decide how much control the partner has. You have two choices:
Choose the appropriate permissions for your partner’s specific needs - when in doubt, ask them what they require. Most agencies will require 'Manage Pixel'. When you’ve made your selection, click 'Confirm'.
The invite is now on its way! The partner will receive a notification and an email, and they must accept it on their end.
This process is more straightforward, as the person is already in your Business Manager.
First, go to your Business Settings and click on Data Sources > Pixels.
Choose the pixel you want to share from your list, but this time click the Add People button.
A list of your team members will appear. Find the one you’re looking for and click their name. The next screen will let you choose between 'View Pixel' and 'Manage Pixel,' just like with partners.
Once selected, just click the blue Assign button, and you’re done! They’ll have immediate access to the pixel according to the role you set.
Here are a few of the most common pitfalls to watch out for when sharing your pixel:
If the time comes to end a partnership, revoking access is just as easy.
Removing access is immediate.
