How to Send Invites on Facebook

Sending an invite on Facebook is one of the most direct ways to grow your Page, pack your event, or build a thriving community in your Group. It’s the digital equivalent of tapping someone on the shoulder and saying, “Hey, you might like this.” This guide will show you exactly how to send invites for Pages, Events, and Groups, along with some key strategies to make sure those invites actually get accepted.

Understanding the Power of a Facebook Invite

Before jumping into the step-by-step instructions, it’s worth understanding why inviting people is so important. When someone accepts your invitation, it does more than just add a number to your follower or member count. It’s a powerful social signal. You’re not just broadcasting content and hoping people find it, you’re actively curating an audience you believe will genuinely benefit from what you have to offer. This leads to higher engagement rates, a stronger sense of community, and ultimately, a more effective presence on the platform.

There are three main types of invites we'll cover, each with its own method and strategy:

  • Page Invites: Asking people to "Like" or "Follow" your Facebook Page to see your updates in their feed.
  • Event Invites: Sending invitations for online or in-person events to get RSVPs.
  • Group Invites: Asking people to join a private or public community centered around a specific topic.

How to Invite People to Like Your Facebook Page

Getting more Page Likes is often the first goal for any business, creator, or organization on Facebook. Invites are your best tool for organic, friend-to-friend growth.

Method 1: Inviting Your Friend List

This is the classic method and the easiest way to give your Page an initial boost. You’re asking the people who already know and support you to follow your new venture.

  1. Navigate to your Facebook Page. Make sure you are interacting as the Page.
  2. Under your Page's cover photo, look for the menu with three dots (...) on the right side. Click it.
  3. From the dropdown menu, select "Invite Friends."
  4. A window will pop up showing your entire friend list. You can scroll through and manually check the box next to each person you want to invite.
  5. Pro Tip: Don't just "Select All." Sending impersonal, mass invites can feel spammy. Be strategic. Use the search bar to find specific friends you think would be genuinely interested in your Page's content.
  6. Once you've selected your friends, click "Send Invites." They'll receive a notification prompting them to like your Page.

You can also toggle between inviting from your personal profile or sending the invites through Messenger for a more direct, conversational approach, though notifications are generally less intrusive.

Method 2: Invite People Who Have Reacted to Your Posts

This is arguably the most powerful way to grow your Page. You are inviting people who have already engaged with your content. They've proven they're interested, but they just haven't taken the final step to click "Follow."

  1. Find a popular post on your Facebook Page - one with a good number of likes and other reactions.
  2. Click on the string of reaction icons and numbers directly below the post.
  3. A list of everyone who reacted to the post will appear.
  4. Next to the names of people who don't already like your Page, you will see an "Invite" button.
  5. Go down the list and click "Invite" for each person.

Make this a weekly habit. Go through your top-performing posts from the past seven days and invite every single non-follower who engaged. These individuals have an incredibly high conversion rate because the invitation is relevant and timely. They just liked your content, and now you're politely asking them to stay connected.

How to Send Invites for a Facebook Event

Whether you're hosting a webinar, a local market, or a community get-together, events on Facebook thrive on RSVPs. Here’s how to fill your guest list.

Step-by-Step: Sending Event Invitations

Once you've created your event, getting the word out is your next priority. The tools Facebook provides make it simple to reach the right people.

  1. Go to the Facebook Event page you created.
  2. Look for the large "Invite" button, often located near the top of the event page, below the event name or cover photo.
  3. Clicking "Invite" will open a window similar to the Page invite tool. You can select friends from your list to send a direct invitation to.
  4. Choose your friends wisely. Think about who is local (for in-person events) or who has an interest in the topic (for online events).
  5. You can also use the "Share" button on the event page. This gives you more options:
    • Share to Feed: Posts the event directly to your personal timeline or your Page's feed.
    • Share via Messenger: Allows you to send a personal message with the event link to specific friends or groups. This is a great way to add a personal note explaining why you think they'd enjoy it.
    • Share to a Group: If you're a member of relevant community groups, you can share the event there (always check the group's rules on promotion first!).
    • Copy Link: Get a direct link to the event that you can paste anywhere - in an email, a text message, or on another social media platform.

For an even wider reach, consider making another Page a "Co-Host." If you're partnering with another business or creator, making them a co-host allows them to invite their own followers, instantly expanding your potential audience.

How to Invite Members to a Facebook Group

Facebook Groups are all about community. Inviting the right members is what makes a group engaging and valuable instead of silent or spammy.

Method 1: Inviting from the Group

Most groups start by inviting a foundational group of members who can set the tone and start conversations.

  1. Navigate to your Facebook Group's home page.
  2. On the right-hand side (on desktop) or at the top of the mobile app, you'll see an "Invite" or "Invite Members" button, usually shown with a + icon and silhouette.
  3. Clicking this opens a field where you can type the names of your Facebook friends. As you type, their profiles will appear, and you can select them.
  4. You can add multiple friends to a single invitation batch. When you're ready, click "Send Invites."

Method 2: Using the 'Share' Function for Wider Reach

Just like with events, you can also share your group to attract members who aren't on your friends list.

  1. On your group's main page, click the "Share" button.
  2. From here, you get a familiar set of options:
    • Share to a Page: If you have a Business Page, you can promote your group to its followers. It's common practice to have a Page as the "face" of the brand and a Group as the "community hub."
    • Copy Link: Grab the direct URL for your group. This is perfect for including in an email newsletter, a blog post, or your bio on other social platforms like Instagram or X.
    • Send in Messenger: Personally invite contacts through a direct message.

If your group is linked to a Facebook Page, you can also directly invite people who like your Page to join the group. This feature is a fantastic bridge between your broader audience (Page fans) and your dedicated community (Group members).

Best Practices and Invitation Etiquette

Just because you can invite someone doesn't always mean you should. Following a few simple rules will make your invites more effective and keep you from being marked as a spammer.

  • Be Relevant. The golden rule is personalization. Don't invite your entire friend list of 500 people to like your Page about niche knitting patterns if you know most of them aren't interested. Target invites to people whose interests align with your content. Quality is far better than quantity.
  • Don't Be a Machine. When sending an invite link through Messenger or text, add a personal note. A simple, "Hey, I started this group for local hikers and thought you'd love it," is 100x more effective than a cold, unexplained link drop.
  • Pace Yourself. Facebook has limits on how many invites you can send in a short period to prevent spam. If you try to invite hundreds of people in one go, you may get temporarily blocked from the feature. Spread your invitations out over a few days.
  • Leverage Warm Audiences. As we discussed with Page invites, your most valuable potential followers are people who have already engaged with you. Prioritize inviting them before cold-contacting others. An invite to someone who just commented on your video feels helpful, not annoying.

Final Thoughts

Sending invites on Facebook is a fundamental skill for building an audience, but it's one that requires a thoughtful approach. By using the different methods for Pages, events, and groups, and by focusing on inviting the right people at the right time, you can steadily build an engaged community that wants to hear from you.

Once those new followers and members start to accept your invites, keeping up with all the comments and messages they bring can feel like a full-time job.
