How to See What Devices Are Logged into Facebook

Ever had that weird feeling that someone else might be logged into your Facebook account? Whether it’s an old phone you sold, a public computer you forgot to sign out of, or something more concerning, it’s smart to know exactly who has access. This guide will walk you through, step-by-step, how to see every device logged into your Facebook account, how to instantly kick out any unauthorized users, and how to set up simple alerts to keep your profile secure for good.

Why You Should Check Your Active Sessions (Like, Right Now)

Taking a few minutes to check your active Facebook sessions isn't just for the ultra-paranoid, it’s basic digital hygiene, especially if you manage business or brand accounts. Here’s why it’s so important to make this a regular habit.

Prevent Unauthorized Access and Potential Damage

The most obvious reason is security. If someone gains access to your Facebook account, they can do a lot more than just poke your friends. They could post spam, send malicious links to your contacts, or try to scam people in your network. For business pages, the risk is even greater. A hacker could run unauthorized ads with your credit card, change your page details, delete content, or post horribly off-brand material that could wreck your reputation overnight.

Protect Your Brand and Personal Reputation

As a marketer or entrepreneur, your social media presence is a direct reflection of your brand. A compromised account can become a megaphone for misinformation, offensive content, or embarrassing posts. Imagine a stranger sending unprofessional DMs to your clients or posting spam comments from your brand’s official account. The damage control required can be a massive headache and can erode the trust you’ve worked so hard to build with your audience.

Clean Up Your Digital Footprint

It’s not always a malicious actor. More often than not, you're likely the one who left the door open. Maybe you logged into your account on a friend’s tablet, a computer at a hotel business center, or an old laptop now collecting dust in a closet. Each of those active sessions is a potential security vulnerability waiting to be exploited. Regularly clearing out old, unused devices is like tidying up your digital house - it keeps things safe, organized, and provides welcome peace of mind.

How to See What Devices Are Logged Into Your Facebook Account

Ready to take a look? The process is straightforward whether you’re on a computer or your phone. Facebook centralizes this information in the Meta Accounts Center, which makes it easy to review security settings for both Facebook and Instagram at the same time.

Checking Active Sessions on a Desktop Browser

If you’re at your laptop or desktop, finding your active sessions only takes a minute. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Log into your Facebook account. Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner of the screen to open the menu.
  2. Click on Settings & Privacy, and then select Settings from the dropdown menu.
  3. On the left-hand navigation bar, click on Accounts Center. It's often the very first option.
  4. In the Accounts Center, look for the "Account Settings" section and click on Password and security.
  5. Under "Security checks," click on Where you're logged in.
  6. You’ll see a list of your accounts (Facebook, Instagram, etc.). Click on your Facebook account to see the full list of active sessions.

Here, you'll see a record of every device logged into your account, including its approximate location, the type of device (e.g., Windows PC, iPhone 14), and the last known login date. Take a moment to scan through this list - do all of these devices belong to you?

Checking Active Sessions on the Facebook Mobile App (iOS & Android)

Checking from your phone is just as easy and provides the same information. The steps are nearly identical for both iPhone and Android devices.

  1. Open the Facebook app and tap on the Menu icon (it looks like three horizontal lines and your profile picture) in the bottom-right corner.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Settings & Privacy to expand the menu, then tap on Settings.
  3. At the very top, you’ll see the Accounts Center. Tap anywhere in this large box to open it.
  4. Under "Account settings," tap on Password and security.
  5. From there, navigate to a menu called Where you're logged in.
  6. Select your Facebook account, and you'll be presented with a list of all your active login sessions.

Just like on the desktop, you'll see the device, its estimated location, and the last login time. If you use your phone as your primary device, you should see "This device" or "Active now" at the top of the list.

Found Something... Weird? Here's Your Action Plan.

Scrolling through the list and see a login from a city you've never visited or from a device you don't recognize? Don't panic. Acting quickly is what matters. Here’s exactly what to do to secure your account in less than five minutes.

First, Cut Off Their Access and Log Out Unrecognized Devices

Once you’ve spotted a suspicious login, your immediate goal is to kick them out.

From the "Where you're logged in" screen, you can either log out a single device or multiple devices at once.

  • For a single device: Simply click or tap on the session you don't recognize. On the next screen, you’ll see a "Log out" button. Hit it.
  • For multiple devices: Scroll to the bottom and tap or click the "Select devices to log out" button. Check the boxes next to every session you want to end and then click "Log out."

Pro tip: If you are even slightly unsure about a device, log it out. The worst-case scenario is you’ll have to sign in again on a device you actually own. It's much safer to log everything out than to leave a potential backdoor open.

Next, Change Your Password

Logging out an intruder is the first step, but it’s not enough. If they had access, they may have your password. Changing it is mandatory.

Go back to the Password and security page in the Accounts Center. You'll see a "Change password" option right at the top. When creating a new one, aim for a strong and unique password. Use a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Most importantly, don’t reuse a password you’ve used for any other service. If you struggle to remember them, this is a great time to start using a password manager.

Finally, Fortify Your Account with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Changing your password locks the door. Activating two-factor authentication barricades it. 2FA adds a second layer of security, requiring a unique code from your phone in addition to your password whenever you log in from a new device.

Also on the Password and security page, you’ll find "Two-factor authentication." Facebook gives you a few options:

  • Authentication App (Recommended): This is the most secure method. Apps like Google Authenticator or Authy generate a time-sensitive code on your device.
  • Text Message (SMS): Facebook will text you a code. This is convenient but slightly less secure due to the small risk of SIM-swapping attacks.
  • Security Key: An advanced option using a physical USB or NFC key for verification.

Set up an authenticator app. It’s the best defense against unauthorized access, even if someone manages to steal your password.

Build Better Habits: Proactive Security for Your Social Accounts

Once your account is clean and secure, establishing a few good habits will keep it that way. For anyone managing social media, especially for brands or clients, proactive security prevents problems before they start.

  • Set Up Login Alerts: In the "Password and security" settings, you'll find "Login alerts." Turn these on. Facebook can notify you via email or an in-app notification anytime a login occurs from an unrecognized device or browser. This gives you a real-time heads-up about any suspicious activity.
  • Regularly Review Authorized Apps: Over the years, you’ve probably connected dozens of third-party apps and websites to your Facebook account. Not all of them are still needed or trustworthy. Go to your settings and find the Apps and Websites section. Review this list and remove access for any that you no longer use. These can become outdated and create unnecessary vulnerabilities.
  • Watch Out for Phishing Scams: Always be skeptical of emails or messages asking for your login credentials. Phishing scams try to trick you into entering your password on a fake login page. Before entering your password, always double-check that the URL in your browser is officially facebook.com.

Final Thoughts

Checking what devices are logged into your Facebook profile is a quick but powerful way to maintain your digital security. By regularly reviewing your active sessions, immediately logging out suspicious devices, and strengthening your account with a unique password and two-factor authentication, you can protect both your personal data and your professional brand reputation.

Keeping individual accounts secure is one piece of the puzzle, but for social media managers, the complexity grows with every client or brand you manage. Juggling dozens of logins can feel chaotic and also expand your security risks. At Postbase, we designed our platform to reduce this exact friction. Instead of constantly logging in and out of different apps, you can connect all of your clients' accounts securely in one dashboard. We built our tool with stable, reliable connections, so you can focus on creating and scheduling great content across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and more, without ever having to worry about who is logged in where.
