How to Export a Pinterest Board

You've spent countless hours curating the perfect Pinterest board - a collection of inspiration for a brand campaign, a home renovation project, or your next digital product. Now, you need to get that content off of Pinterest and into a shareable, easy-to-use format. This guide will walk you through several methods for exporting your Pinterest boards, from simple visual printouts to fully automated spreadsheets, so you can turn your collection of Pins into an actionable resource.

Why You Might Want to Export a Pinterest Board

While Pinterest is a fantastic tool for discovery and organization, sometimes you need your content in a different format. Here are a few common reasons why creators and marketers export their boards:

  • Creating a Digital Backup: Pins can be deleted and links can break. Creating a backup of your board protects the valuable collection you've built over time.
  • Content Strategy and Analysis: Exporting Pin data (like descriptions and source URLs) into a spreadsheet helps you analyze trends, spot patterns in your content, and plan future Pins or blog posts.
  • Sharing with Collaborators: If you're working with a team or client who doesn't use Pinterest, exporting a board as a PDF or spreadsheet is an easy way to share mood boards, design ideas, or social media inspiration.
  • Repurposing Ideas for Other Platforms: A board full of great ideas can be the starting point for your Instagram Reels, TikTok videos, or LinkedIn posts. Having a reference sheet makes repurposing content much more efficient.
  • Offline Access: For projects where you might not have internet access, having a local copy of your inspiration board is incredibly useful.

The challenge is that Pinterest doesn’t offer a simple one-click "Export Board" button. But don't worry - there are several effective workarounds to get the job done.

Method 1: The Manual Approach (Simple but Slow)

The most straightforward method is to save your Pins manually. While it’s time-consuming for large boards, it gives you complete control over which Pins you save and how you organize them. This is best for smaller, highly-curated boards where every single Pin is important.

How to Manually Save Your Pins:

  1. Open the Pinterest board you want to export.
  2. Click on the first Pin you want to save to open it in a close-up view.
  3. Right-click on the image and select "Save Image As..." to save the Pin image to a folder on your computer.
  4. Copy the Pin’s title, description, and source URL and paste them into a document or spreadsheet. Be sure to create columns in your spreadsheet for "Title," "Description," "Source URL," and "Image File Name" to stay organized.
  5. Repeat this process for every Pin on the board.

Pros: You get high-quality images and complete control over the data you capture. It requires no third-party tools.

Cons: Extremely time-intensive for boards with hundreds or thousands of Pins.

Method 2: The Fast and Visual 'Print to PDF' Trick

If you just need a visual overview of your board to use as a mood board or a quick reference guide, using your browser's print function is a fantastic hack. This method creates a single PDF document that shows all the images on your board.

Steps to Save Your Board as a PDF:

  1. Go to the Pinterest board you want to export.
  2. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page until every single Pin on the board has loaded. This step is important, if you don't load all the Pins, they won't appear in the final PDF.
  3. Once all Pins are loaded, go to your browser's menu and select File >, Print. (You can also use the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+P on Windows or Cmd+P on Mac).
  4. In the print destination or printer options, select "Save as PDF".
  5. Review the print preview. You can often adjust settings like layout (portrait vs. landscape) and margins to get the look you want. Unchecking "Headers and footers" can give you a cleaner export.
  6. Click "Save" and choose a location on your computer to save the PDF.

Pros: Incredibly fast and easy. Perfect for creating visual mood boards and shareable lookbooks.

Cons: You only get the images, not the descriptions, titles, or source URLs. The image quality in the PDF might be lower than manually saving each image individually.

Method 3: Using Third-Party Browser Extensions

Several browser extensions have been created to help download images in bulk from websites, and many work well with Pinterest. These tools can save you a ton of time compared to the manual method, but you should always proceed with caution when installing third-party software.

How to Use a Downloading Extension:

  1. Go to the web store for your browser (Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, etc.).
  2. Search for an image downloader extension. Popular choices include "Image Downloader," "Pincase," or "Bulk Image Downloader." Read the reviews and check the privacy policy before installing.
  3. Once installed, navigate to your Pinterest board. Just like with the PDF method, be sure to scroll down and load all the Pins on the page.
  4. Click the extension's icon in your browser toolbar. The extension will scan the page and display all the images it has found.
  5. Most extensions will allow you to select all the images and download them in a single batch. Some even let you filter by image size to avoid downloading profile pictures or small icons.
  6. Click the download button, and the extension will save all the selected images to your Downloads folder.

Pros: Much faster than manually saving Pins for image-only exports.

Cons: A potential security risk is involved with any third-party browser extension. These tools typically only grab images, not the associated text data or URLs. The performance can be hit-or-miss depending on changes to Pinterest's website structure.

Method 4: Automate Your Exports with IFTTT

If you want to create a full-fledged database of your Pins and are comfortable with a little setup, IFTTT (If This Then That) is an incredibly powerful tool. IFTTT is a free web service that lets you create "applets" to connect different apps and services. You can create an applet that automatically adds a new row to a Google Sheet every time you add a Pin to a specific board.

Important Note: This method only works for new Pins added to a board after you set it up. It cannot retroactively export Pins that are already on your board. This is perfect for setting up a living archive or content database going forward.

Setting Up Your Google Sheets and IFTTT Connection:

  1. Create an IFTTT Account: If you don't already have one, sign up for a free account at IFTTT.com.
  2. Prepare Your Google Sheet: In Google Sheets, create a new spreadsheet. Name it something descriptive like "My Design Inspiration Pinterest Board." Create column headers for the data you want to collect, such as: `DateAdded`, `PinURL`, `Description`, `ImageURL`, and `BoardName`.
  3. Create a New Applet in IFTTT:
    • In your IFTTT dashboard, click "Create".
    • For the "If This" trigger, search for and select "Pinterest."
    • Choose the trigger event. A great one to use is "New pin on one of your boards."
    • Connect your Pinterest account if prompted and select the specific board you want to track from the dropdown menu.
  4. Set Up the "Then That" Action:
    • For the "Then That" action, search for and select "Google Sheets."
    • Choose the action you want it to perform. Select "Add row to spreadsheet."
    • Connect your Google account.
    • Paste the URL of the Google Sheet you created in step 2.
    • Now, map the data from Pinterest to your spreadsheet columns in the "Formatted row" field. IFTTT uses "ingredients" to pull data. You can set it up like this:
{{AddedAt}}|||{{URL}}|||{{Description}}|||{{ImageURL}}|||{{Board}}This formatting uses `|||` as a separator to place each piece of data in its respective column.
    • Click "Create action," review your applet, and click "Finish."

Now, every time you add a new Pin to your specified board, IFTTT will automatically add a new row to your Google Sheet with all the details. This creates a powerful, searchable, and sortable database of your curated content over time.

Pros: Fully automated, creating a rich dataset of your Pins with URLs, descriptions, and image links. Perfect for content analysis and long-term backups.

Cons: Requires some initial setup and only works for new Pins, not existing ones.
