How to Edit Collections on TikTok

By Spencer Lanoue

TikTok’s Collections feature gives you a powerful way to organize the videos you love, but figuring out how to manage them can feel a little hidden. If you've ever saved a video and wished you could categorize it, group tutorial series together, or simply rename a folder you made, this guide is for you. We’ll walk through every step of creating, managing, and editing your TikTok Collections to turn your saved videos tab from chaos into a perfectly organized library.

What Are TikTok Collections, and Why Should You Use Them?

At its core, a TikTok Collection is simply a private folder you create to organize the videos you save (or "bookmark"). Think of it like a set of personal playlists for all the content you want to come back to later. Instead of having a single, endless stream of every video you've ever bookmarked, you can file them away into tidy categories.

Why is this so useful? Organization helps you find exactly what you're looking for, fast. You can create Collections for anything:

  • Recipes: Group all those must-try dinner ideas and dessert tutorials.
  • Workouts: Keep your favorite fitness routines and exercise examples in one spot.
  • Marketing Tips: Save valuable social media advice or content ideas for your brand.
  • DIY Projects: Organize tutorials for your next home improvement or craft project.
  • Funny Videos: Create a go-to folder for content that always makes you laugh.

By using Collections, you transform your "Saved" tab from a digital junk drawer into a highly functional resource tailored to your interests.

A Quick Note: Collections vs. Playlists

Before we go further, it's important to clear up a common point of confusion: the difference between Collections and Playlists.

  • Collections are for organizing other people's videos that you have saved. They are 100% private and only visible to you.
  • Playlists are for organizing your own public videos on your profile. They are public and allow your followers to browse your content by series or category.

This article focuses on Collections - your private library of saved videos. Managing playlists on your profile involves a different process which typically becomes available once you reach a certain follower count and have a Creator or Business account.

How to Edit Your TikTok Collections: A Step-by-Step Guide

Editing your collections is straightforward once you know where to look. We'll cover everything from renaming a collection to deleting one entirely.

Step 1: Finding Your Collections

First things first, you need to know where your Collections live. They're tucked away within your saved videos.

  1. Open the TikTok app and go to your Profile tab (the icon of a person in the bottom-right corner).
  2. Below your bio, look for a row of icons. Tap the bookmark icon. This is your "Favorites" screen, where all your saved videos, sounds, effects, and more are stored.
  3. At the top of this screen, you’ll see several tabs like "Posts," "Sounds," and "Comments." Tap on “Collections.” This is home base for all the video folders you’ve created.

If you haven’t created a Collection yet, this area will be empty. Don't worry, creating one is simple. The easiest way is to find a video you want to save, tap the bookmark icon on the right side of the video, and a prompt will appear asking if you want to add it to a collection. Tap that, give your first collection a name, and you're good to go!

Step 2: How to Rename a TikTok Collection

Did you name a collection “Stuff” in a hurry and now want something more descriptive? Changing the name is easy.

  1. Navigate to your Collections using the steps above.
  2. Tap on the Collection you want to rename to open it.
  3. In the top-right corner of the screen, you'll see a Share icon (it looks like an arrow pointing to the right). Tap it.
  4. A menu will slide up from the bottom. The first option should be “Change name.” Tap it.
  5. A text box will appear with the current name. Type in your new name (you have a 30-character limit) and tap “Save.”

That’s it! Your collection is now updated with its new, more organized name.

Step 3: Adding and Removing Videos from a Collection

Your collections are dynamic. You’ll want to continuously add new finds and maybe remove videos that are no longer relevant.

How to Add a Video to an Existing Collection:

This is usually done when you first save a video, but you can also manage it afterward.

  1. Find a video on your For You page or elsewhere that you want to save.
  2. Tap and hold the bookmark icon on the right side of the video.
  3. A pop-up will show all of your existing Collections. Simply tap the name of the Collection you want to add the video to. A small confirmation message will appear, saying "Saved to [Collection Name]".

How to Remove a Video from a Collection:

If a video no longer fits a collection, you can remove it in just a few taps.

  1. Go to your Collections list and open the one containing the video(s) you want to remove.
  2. At the top of the collection's screen, tap “Manage videos.”
  3. Your videos will now appear with circles next to them. Tap the circles to select all the videos you want to take out of the collection. A red checkmark will indicate a selected video.
  4. Once you've selected your videos, tap the red “Remove” button at the bottom of the screen.
  5. A confirmation will pop up asking, "Remove from collection?". Tap “Remove” again.

It's important to know that this only removes the video from your collection. The video remains in your main "Posts" folder within your saved items unless you unsave it entirely by tapping the bookmark icon again on the video itself.

Step 4: How to Delete an Entire TikTok Collection

If a Collection has served its purpose and you no longer need it, deleting the entire folder is simple and helps reduce clutter.

  1. Go to your list of Collections on your profile.
  2. Select the Collection you want to permanently delete.
  3. Tap the Share icon (the arrow) in the top-right corner.
  4. From the menu that appears, tap the “Delete collection” option, which has a trash can icon next to it.
  5. TikTok will ask for final confirmation: “Delete this collection? Videos in this collection will stay in your favorites.” Tap “Delete” to confirm.

As the confirmation message states, deleting the collection does not delete the videos themselves. They will all still be available in your general saved videos tab.

Pro Tips for Organizing Your TikTok Content

Knowing how to edit collections is the first step. The next is using them strategically to make your TikTok experience better, whether you’re a casual user or a serious content creator researching your niche.

Think Like a Librarian

The key to good organization is creating categories that make intuitive sense to you. Instead of one giant “Marketing” collection, consider breaking it down further:

  • Content Hooks & Ideas: For videos with great intros you want to model.
  • SEO & Hashtags: Videos that offer specific advice on discovery.
  • Competitor Analysis: A private folder to track what others in your space are doing well.
  • Trending Audios: Save videos using a sound you might want to use later.

Use an "Inbox Zero" Approach

Your main saved videos folder (the one under the "Posts" tab) can function as your inbox. When you have a few minutes, go through that inbox and file each video into its proper Collection. This prevents your main saved list from becoming overwhelmingly long and keeps everything neatly organized from the start.

Create Collections for Multi-part Series

Have you ever found part 2 of a great story but couldn't find part 1? This is where Collections shine. If you come across a multi-part video series, create a dedicated Collection for it right away. As you find the other parts, you can add them to that collection. Now you have the whole series from start to finish, perfectly ordered and ready to watch.

Final Thoughts

Mastering TikTok Collections lets you turn an endless feed of saved videos into a curated, personal library that serves your needs - whether for entertainment, education, or creative inspiration. By regularly naming, sorting, and cleaning up your collections, you make the app a much more powerful tool.
