Closing a Facebook Page you've built from the ground up can be a big decision, but the process itself is surprisingly straightforward. Sometimes, you don't need a permanent solution. If you simply need to take a break, pivot your business, or remove your Page from public view temporarily, unpublishing is a much better option.
If there's any chance you might want to return to the Page in the future, choose to unpublish it instead.
Think of all the content you've created: photos, videos, posts, stories, messages. That's your brand's history, and it's worth saving. Facebook provides a simple tool to download a complete copy of your Page information. This backup will include:
To download your data, go to Settings & Privacy >, Settings >, Privacy >, Your Facebook Information, and click Download Profile Information. It might take a little while for Facebook to compile your file, but they’ll notify you when it's ready. Do this well before you initiate the deletion.
Your followers have been on this journey with you. If you disappear without a word, it can be a confusing experience and may even harm your brand's reputation if you're active elsewhere. A simple, transparent announcement goes a long way.
Create a final post a week or two before you plan to delete the page. Briefly explain why the page is closing and, if applicable, direct your followers to where they can find you now - your website, a new social media profile, or your mailing list. This thoughtful step provides closure and helps you retain the community you worked so hard to build.
This may sound obvious, but it's a common stumbling block. Only an account with an Admin role can delete a Facebook Page. If you are an Editor, Moderator, Analyst, or have a custom role, you won't see the option to delete. If you're managing the page for someone else, you’ll need to ask the Page Owner or another Admin to either grant you full Admin access or handle the deletion themselves.
Facebook's interface changes from time to time, but the core process for deleting a page from your computer has remained largely the same, especially with the "New Pages Experience." Follow these steps carefully.
First, make sure you are acting as your Page, not your personal profile. Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner of Facebook. In the menu that appears, click "See all profiles" and select the Page you want to delete. You'll know you've switched successfully when you see your Page's name and profile picture in the top left.
Once you are viewing Facebook as your Page, click your Page's profile picture in the top-right corner again. In the dropdown menu, select Settings & Privacy, and then click Settings.
On the left-hand navigation menu of the Settings page, click on Privacy. This is where Facebook groups many of the core controls for your Page.
Within the Privacy section, click on Facebook Page Information. This area contains the more advanced options for managing your page data, including deletion.
Scroll to the bottom of the list and you'll see a row labeled Deactivation and deletion. Click the View button on the right side of this row.
Facebook will now give you a choice between "Deactivate Page" (which is temporary) and "Delete Page" (which is permanent). Select Delete Page and click the Continue button.
Before processing the deletion, Facebook will offer you the option to download your information one last time. If you haven't already, do it now! Once you are ready, click Continue. For security, you'll need to re-enter your Facebook password to confirm your identity. After entering your password, click Continue one final time.
That's it! The permanent deletion process has begun.
Deleting a Page from your phone is just as easy. The steps are nearly identical for both iPhone and Android devices using the Facebook app.
Open the Facebook app. Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines, usually at the bottom right for iPhone or top right for Android). Tap the downward arrow next to your name to see all your profiles, and select the Page you intend to delete.
Once your Page has loaded, tap the menu icon again. Then, tap on the Settings & Privacy dropdown and select Settings.
On the main Settings screen, tap on Page Settings at the top of the list, right under your Page name.
Scroll down through the Page Settings menu until you find the section titled "Facebook Page Information." Within that section, tap on Access and Control. This is where you manage your Page's data and deactivation settings.
Tap on Deactivation and deletion. Just like on the desktop, you will again have the choice to "Deactivate Page" or "Delete Page". Tap the circle next to Delete Page and then tap the Continue button.
Facebook will give you a final warning and another chance to download your information. If you're ready to proceed, tap Continue. You will be asked to enter your password to confirm that it's really you. Enter it and tap Continue. A final screen will ask you to confirm permanent Page deletion. Tap Delete Page to complete the process.
When you confirm the deletion, your Page doesn't vanish immediately. Instead, Facebook puts it into a 30-day deactivation period. Here’s what that means:
This grace period is a helpful safety net, giving you one last chance to reconsider. But don't rely on it as a long-term solution - if you want to take your Page down temporarily, unpublishing is the right tool for the job.
