How to Delete a Facebook Business

Closing a Facebook Business Account is a decision that requires more than just clicking a button. This guide provides a clear path, walking you through everything from essential prep work to troubleshooting common issues, so you can permanently delete your business account with confidence.

Before You Delete: An Essential Checklist

Once a Facebook Business Account (now often called Meta Business Suite) is deleted, it’s gone for good. There’s no undo button. Before you take that final step, run through this checklist to make sure you've covered all your bases and won’t regret the decision later.

1. Understand Your "Why"

First, be absolutely certain that deletion is the right move. Are you deleting your account because:

  • Your business has permanently closed?
  • You're completely rebranding and starting from scratch?
  • You accidentally created a duplicate Business Account?

If you're just taking a temporary break or want to transfer ownership, there might be better options, like unpublishing your Page or changing admins. Deletion is for permanent removal.

2. Download Your Pages and Instagram Account Information

Your Business Account holds years of content, data, and audience insights connected to your Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts. Before deleting it, download a copy of everything. This backup includes all your posts, photos, videos, messages, and Page information. Don't skip this step - you can't get this data back later.

To download your Page information:

  1. From your Facebook Page, go to Settings >, Privacy >, Your Facebook Information.
  2. Next to "Download Page Information," click View.
  3. You can choose a date range, format (HTML is easier to browse, JSON is for importing into other services), and media quality.
  4. Select the information you want to download and click Request a Download.

Facebook will compile the file and notify you when it's ready. This can take some time, depending on how much content you have.

3. Inform Your Audience (If Applicable)

If your Facebook Page has an active community, don’t just vanish. Post a farewell message letting your followers know that the page will be closing. You can also direct them to your new website, another social media profile, or provide other contact information. Giving your audience a heads-up is a professional courtesy that maintains goodwill.

4. Settle All Outstanding Ad Account Balances

Meta will not let you delete a Business Account that owes money. Check every ad account connected to your Business Account and ensure there are no outstanding payments. If there's a balance, pay it in full. This is one of the most common blockers people run into, so it's a good idea to check it first.

5. Review and Disconnect Third-Party Apps

Over the years, you've likely given dozens of third-party apps and services access to your Business Account for everything from scheduling to analytics. Go to Business Settings >, Integrations >, Apps to review and remove any connected apps you no longer need. This helps a clean separation and prevents any lingering access issues.

Understanding the Lingo: Business Account vs. Page

Facebook's terminology can be confusing. To delete the right thing, you need to understand the difference between the main components you’re working with.

  • A Facebook Page is the public-facing profile that your fans and customers follow and interact with. It's your storefront on Facebook.
  • A Meta Business Account (also known as Meta Business Suite or the old "Business Manager") is the backend management tool. It's the central hub where you manage your assets - like your Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts, ad accounts, pixels, and catalogs. It also allows you to grant access to employees and agencies.
  • An Ad Account is the specific account used to create and run advertising campaigns. It lives inside your Business Account.

In this guide, you are learning how to delete the overarching Meta Business Account. By doing this, you'll also remove its connection to any Pages, ad accounts, and other assets contained within it. Deleting a Business Account does NOT automatically delete the Facebook Page itself, but it removes it from this business management structure. You'll need to delete contained assets before Meta allows you to delete the entire business account.

How to Delete Your Facebook Business Account (Step-by-Step)

With the prep work done, you're ready to proceed with the deletion. You must be a full admin of the Business Account to complete these steps.

Step 1: Navigate to Business Settings

Go to business.facebook.com and sign in. From your Meta Business Suite dashboard, locate the Settings gear icon on the bottom left of the sidebar.

Step 2: Find Your Business Information

Inside the Settings menu, click on Business settings. This will take you to a more detailed backend view. In the left-hand navigation menu of this next screen, find and click on Business info. This section contains all the foundational details about your Business Account.

Step 3: Initiate the Permanent Deletion

At the top of the Business info page, you'll see details about your account, including its name and ID. Next to the business name, an option in blue text will say Permanently Delete Business. Click it.

Facebook will now open a pop-up window explaining the consequences of this action. It will remind you that deleting the Business Account will remove all connected assets, access for employees, and any associated credit lines or permissions.

Step 4: Follow the On-Screen Prompts

The system will guide you through a series of steps to confirm your decision.

  • First, it will ask for a reason for wanting to delete the account. Choose the option that best fits your situation.
  • Next, it may ask you to remove or reassign ownership of Pages, ad accounts, and other connected assets if you haven't done so already. If your Business Account is empty, you can move straight to the final confirmation.
  • Finally, you'll be asked to re-enter your password to verify your identity.

After you complete the verification, click the final "Delete" button. The system will then schedule your Business Account for permanent deletion. There's typically a 24-hour waiting period during which you can still cancel the deletion. After that, the action is irreversible.

Common Roadblocks &, Troubleshooting

Sometimes, the process isn’t as smooth as clicking a button. Here are solutions to the most common issues users face when trying to delete their account.

Problem: The "Permanently Delete Business" button is greyed out.

This is the most frequent hurdle. If you can't click the delete button, it's because one or more conditions have not been met. Check the following:

  • Outstanding Ad Bills: As mentioned, you cannot have any remaining balance on any ad account connected to the Business Account. Pay every outstanding bill first.
  • Active Apps: You need to remove all connected third-party applications. Go to Business Settings and find the "Apps" section to disconnect them.
  • System Users: Some app connections create a "system user." You must also delete these from the "Users" section.
  • Payment Methods Still Exist: You may need to remove ALL payment methods associated with the Business Account before it allows deletion.
  • Active Pages and People: The Business Account cannot contain any assets (Pages, Ad Accounts, etc.) or people (admins, employees) for it to be deleted. You need to either delete these assets or move them to another business account first.

Problem: I can't remove my primary Facebook Page from the Business Account.

A Business Account has one "primary" Page. You often can't remove it the same way you remove others. To fix this, you may need to go into the Page settings directly and, under "Page Access" or "Linked Accounts," disconnect it from the Business Account. Another trick is to create a new, blank "burner" business account and transfer the Page to it, thereby freeing it from the account you want to delete.

Problem: I have other admins and employees connected.

You must be the only person left in the Business Account before you can delete it. Go to Business Settings >, People and remove every other user, including other admins and employees. Make sure you are the last one remaining.

Is Deletion Your Only Option? Alternatives to Consider

Before you commit to deleting everything, make sure one of these simpler alternatives isn't a better fit.

Alternative 1: Unpublish Your Page

If you're rebranding or taking a temporary hiatus, you can simply unpublish your Page. This makes it invisible to the public, but all of your content, followers, and settings are saved. You can republish it at any time with a single click. To do this, go to your Page, then Settings >, General >, Page Visibility and select "Page unpublished."

Alternative 2: Remove Yourself as an Admin

If you're just stepping away from a business and someone else is taking over, you don't need to delete the account. Instead, make sure there is another full admin on the Business Account, and then have them remove you. This transfers ownership cleanly without losing any of the business's history or assets.

Final Thoughts

Deleting a Facebook Business Account is a definitive move, so it's best done thoughtfully. By first completing the pre-deletion checklist, securely backing up your valuable data, and methodically clearing out assets and ad accounts, you can navigate the process without any surprises.
