How to Check TikTok Analytics Step by Step

Ready to figure out exactly what’s working on your TikTok account? Your analytics hold all the answers, showing you who your audience is, when they’re online, and which videos they can’t get enough of. This guide will walk you through exactly how to check your TikTok analytics step-by-step and, more importantly, how to use that data to grow your account.

First Things First: Switch to a Business or Creator Account

Before you can see any data, you need to tell TikTok you’re serious about creating content. By default, personal accounts don’t have access to analytics. Switching is free, takes about 30 seconds, and unlocks all the performance data you need. Both Creator and Business accounts give you analytics, but a Business Account also gives you access to commercial music libraries and advertising features.

If you haven't switched yet, here's how:

  1. Open the TikTok app and go to your Profile.
  2. Tap the three horizontal lines (☰) in the top-right corner to open the menu.
  3. Select Settings and privacy.
  4. Tap on Account.
  5. Choose Switch to Business Account and follow the prompts. You'll pick a category for your account, and you're all set.

Once you’ve switched, it may take a little while for analytics data to start populating, so don't worry if it's not available instantly. All content you post from this point forward will be tracked.

How to Access Your TikTok Analytics Dashboard

Now that you have the right account type, finding your analytics is simple. You can check them on both your mobile device and your desktop, though the desktop version offers a more expansive view which is great for deeper analysis.

On a Mobile Device:

  • Go to your Profile page.
  • Tap the three horizontal lines (☰) in the top-right corner.
  • Select Business Suite (or Creator Tools if you have a Creator account).
  • Tap on Analytics.

On a Desktop:

  • Go to TikTok.com and log in to your account.
  • Hover over your profile picture in the top-right corner.
  • Click on View Analytics from the dropdown menu.

Breaking Down Your TikTok Analytics Tabs

Your analytics dashboard is divided into four main sections: Overview, Content, Followers, and LIVE. Each one tells a different part of your account's story.

The Overview Tab: Your Account's Snapshot

The Overview tab gives you a high-level look at your account’s performance over the last 7, 28, or 60 days. You can even set a custom date range to see your progress over a specific period. This is your command center for tracking topline growth.

Key Metrics You’ll Find Here:

  • Video Views: The total number of times your videos have been viewed in the selected period. Notice any big spikes? Tap on that day to see which video caused it.
  • Profile Views: How many times users have visited your profile page. A rise here often means your content is making people curious enough to see what else you've created. It’s a great indicator that your call-to-action (like "link in bio!") might be working.
  • Likes, Comments, and Shares: These engagement metrics show how your audience is interacting with your content. Shares are particularly valuable, as they signal that your content is compelling enough for someone to pass it on to others.
  • Followers: A topline count of your total followers and a graph showing your growth over time.

Actionable Advice: Use the Overview tab for a weekly check-in. Look at the graphs. Are your views trending up or down? Did a certain video cause a jump in followers? This is where you spot the big-picture trends that tell you if your overall strategy is paying off.

The Content Tab: Understanding Your Videos

This tab is where you get specific details about individual video performance. It’s split into two powerful sections: Video Posts and Trending Videos.

1. Video Posts

This section shows you your most recent posts from the last 7 days and their individual metrics. You get a snapshot of views, likes, comments, and shares for each video right on the main page. For even more detailed information, you can click on any individual video to see:

  • Total Play Time: This is a massive signal to the TikTok algorithm. The longer people spend watching your content across your account, the more valuable TikTok considers it.
  • Average Watch Time: The average amount of time a viewer spent watching your video. If your video is 30 seconds long and your average watch time is 25 seconds, you’ve created something highly engaging. If it's only 5 seconds, a lot of people are scrolling away quickly. Aim to increase this over time.
  • Watched Full Video: The percentage of viewers who watched your video from start to finish. A high percentage here is a golden ticket for getting your video pushed to more For You Pages.
  • Reached Audience: The total number of unique users who saw your video.
  • Traffic Sources: This is huge. It shows you exactly where your views came from:
    • For You Page: Views from the main content discovery feed. This is where you want the majority of your views to come from to reach new audiences.
    • Following Feed: Views from people who already follow you.
    • Personal Profile: Views from people visiting your profile and clicking on your videos.
    • Search: Views from users finding your video through the search function. A good sign your SEO (sound, hashtags, keywords) is working.
