How to Add Instagram to Facebook

Connecting your Instagram and Facebook accounts is one of the smartest, simplest ways to streamline your social media efforts. This single connection unlocks cross-platform sharing, centralizes your message management, and opens up powerful advertising tools. This guide will walk you through exactly how to link them, manage your sharing preferences, and troubleshoot any common hiccups along the way.

Why You Should Connect Instagram to Facebook

Before getting into the step-by-step instructions, it’s worth understanding why this is such a powerful move for creators, brands, and businesses. Linking these two platforms isn't just a convenience, it's a strategic advantage that can save you time and expand your reach.

  • Streamlined Content Publishing: The most obvious benefit is the ability to post once and share across both platforms. You can publish an Instagram post, Story, or Reel and have it automatically appear on your Facebook profile or Page. This saves a massive amount of time and keeps your content consistent.
  • Expanded Audience Reach: While there's often overlap, your Facebook audience and your Instagram audience are not identical. Cross-posting allows you to reach followers on both platforms with a single piece of content, maximizing its visibility and engagement potential without extra effort.
  • Centralized Messaging: By connecting your accounts via Meta Business Suite, you can manage Facebook Messenger Direct Messages, Instagram Direct Messages, and comments from both platforms in one unified inbox. No more jumping between apps and potentially missing important customer inquiries or fan interactions.
  • Unified Brand Presence: Consistency is essential for building a strong brand. When your profiles are linked, it’s easier to maintain a coherent look, feel, and voice across both platforms, strengthening your brand identity.
  • Access to Advanced Business Tools: For brands and businesses, this connection is non-negotiable. Linking an Instagram Business account to a Facebook Page is required to run targeted ads through Facebook's powerful Ads Manager, set up Instagram Shopping, and access more detailed cross-platform analytics in the Meta Business Suite.

How to Connect Your Accounts in the Meta Accounts Center

Meta has made this process incredibly simple through its centralized Accounts Center. You can do this from either the Instagram app on your phone or from the Facebook website on your desktop. The outcome is the same: your accounts will be linked.

Connecting via the Instagram App (Mobile)

Most people manage their social media from their phones, making this the most common method.

  1. Navigate to Your Profile: Open the Instagram app and go to your profile page by tapping your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
  2. Open Settings: Tap the three horizontal lines (the "hamburger" menu) in the top-right corner, then select Settings and privacy.
  3. Go to Accounts Center: At the very top of the menu, you'll see the Meta Accounts Center. Tap on it.
  4. Add Your Facebook Account: Tap on Profiles. You will see your existing Instagram profile. Tap the Add accounts button.
  5. Log in to Facebook: Instagram will prompt you to log into the Facebook account you want to connect. Enter your Facebook login credentials and follow the on-screen prompts to confirm the connection.

Once you’ve completed these steps, your accounts are officially linked within the Accounts Center. You’ll now be able to manage login information and posting settings from one place.

Connecting via Facebook (Desktop)

If you prefer working on a desktop, the process is just as straightforward.

  1. Go to Facebook Settings: Log in to your Facebook account. Click your profile picture in the top-right corner and select Settings & Privacy, then click Settings.
  2. Open Accounts Center: On the left-hand menu, click on Accounts Center.
  3. Add Your Instagram Account: Under "Accounts Center settings," click on Profiles. Then click the Add accounts button.
  4. Log in to Instagram: A new window will pop up asking for your Instagram login credentials. Enter your username and password, then click Log In. Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the connection.

That's all it takes. Your personal profiles are now connected, serving as the foundation for cross-platform sharing.

Connecting Your Instagram Business Account to a Facebook Page

For creators, marketers, and businesses, linking your general profiles isn't enough. The real power comes from connecting your Instagram Professional Account (either a Business or Creator account) directly to your Facebook Business Page. This is what unlocks advertising, shopping, and advanced management features.

Note: You must be an Admin of the Facebook Page to complete this step.

  1. Switch to a Professional Account (If Necessary): If your Instagram account is still set to "Personal," you’ll need to switch it first. Go to Instagram Settings and privacy >, Account type and tools >, Switch to professional account. Follow the prompts to categorize your profile as a Creator or Business.
  2. Go to Your Facebook Page: Navigate to the Facebook Page you want to connect your Instagram account to.
  3. Open Page Settings: On your Page, click Manage, then in the left sidebar under "Your Tools," click Linked Accounts.
  4. Connect Instagram: You will see options for Instagram and WhatsApp. Click on Connect account next to the Instagram icon.
  5. Allow Access to Instagram Messages (Recommended): You’ll see a pop-up asking if you want to allow access to Instagram messages in your inbox. This is a key feature for managing DMs, so it's highly recommended to toggle this on. Click Confirm.
  6. Log in to Instagram: A window will appear prompting you to log into the Instagram Business account you wish to connect. Enter your credentials and approve the connection.

Your Instagram Business account and Facebook Page are now linked. You can confirm this by going to your Instagram profile, tapping Edit Profile, and looking under "Public business information." Your linked Facebook Page should be listed there.

Managing Your Cross-Posting Settings

Now that your accounts are connected, you can decide what content gets shared automatically. Just because you can share everything doesn't always mean you should. A Reel that thrives on Instagram with trending audio may not perform the same way on Facebook.

Here’s how to fine-tune your automatic sharing settings:

  1. Go to the Accounts Center (via either Instagram or Facebook settings).
  2. Under "Account settings," click on Connected experiences.
  3. Select Sharing across profiles.
  4. Choose the account you want to share from (e.g., your Instagram profile).
  5. Under "Automatically share," you’ll see separate toggles for:
    • Your Instagram story
    • Your Instagram posts
    • Your Instagram Reels

You can turn each one on or off independently. Many marketers choose to automate Stories and Posts but manually share Reels. This allows them to edit captions, tags, or audio to better fit the Facebook audience and context before publishing a Reel.

Troubleshooting Common Connection Issues

Sometimes things don't go as planned. Here are a few common problems and how to fix them.

1. I Can't Connect My Instagram to My Facebook Page.

  • You Aren’t a Page Admin: You must have an "Admin" role for the Facebook Page. An Editor, Moderator, or other role won't work. Check your Page Roles under Settings >, New Pages Experience >, Page Access.
  • Your Instagram Account is Personal: You can only connect a Professional (Business or Creator) Instagram account to a Facebook Page. Follow the steps mentioned earlier to switch your account type.
  • The Page is Already Linked to another Instagram Account: A Facebook Page can only be linked to one Instagram account at a time. You'll need to disconnect the existing account first before you can connect a new one.

2. My Posts Aren't Sharing Automatically.

  • The Setting is Off: Double-check the "Sharing across profiles" settings in the Accounts Center to make sure the toggles for Posts, Stories, or Reels are enabled.
  • The Token Expired: Occasionally, the connection between Facebook and Instagram can expire, especially after a password change. The simplest fix is to disconnect and reconnect the accounts. Go to the Accounts Center, remove the linked account, and then re-add it using the steps above. This usually refreshes the connection.

3. I Connected the Wrong Account.

  • It's an Easy Fix: Simply go back to the Accounts Center. Click on Accounts. You'll see a list of all profiles connected. Find the account you want to remove, click the Remove button next to it, and confirm. Then you can use the Add accounts button to link the correct one.

Final Thoughts

Connecting your Instagram and Facebook profiles is a foundational step for anyone serious about managing their social media presence effectively. It syncs your branding, saves valuable time, and grants access to tools that can amplify your growth. Once it’s set up, you can spend less time juggling platforms and more time creating valuable content.

While connecting your Meta accounts is a huge step in the right direction, your social presence likely extends to TikTok, X, LinkedIn, or YouTube Shorts. Jumping between all those apps to schedule posts and reply to comments is still a major time drain. That's the exact problem we built Postbase to solve. We created a single visual calendar where you can plan and schedule content for all your platforms at once and an all-in-one inbox to manage your engagement without constantly switching contexts. It keeps your accounts reliably connected and helps you stay consistent where your audience is paying attention.
